Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.
 
The successful applicant will report to the Section Engineer or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate.
  • National Diploma: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Certificate: GCC: Mines and Works program.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
  • Advantageous: Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).
 EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):
  • 3 - 5 years practical experience in a mining production environment.
DUTIES (including but not limited to):
  • Provide technical and operational support to the Section Engineer in ensuring the efficient utilisation of underground equipment and production processes to meet production targets. The role assists in coordinating engineering and operational activities, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company standards. The Junior Section Engineer contributes to maintaining equipment reliability, implementing best practices, and supporting safety initiatives to achieve departmental objectives.

Financial Perspective:

  • Assist in compiling operational, capex, and labour budget inputs for the sub-function and submit to the Section Engineer for review.
  • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and report variances to the Section Engineer, recommending corrective actions where applicable.
  • Support the review and processing of payments by preparing documentation in line with approved budgets and company policy.
  • Identify and communicate operational, labour, and capex needs within the sub-function to ensure efficient delivery of production targets.
  • Contribute to strategic planning discussions by providing accurate data and insights to support process and systems management.
  • Assist in implementing cost control measures and tracking budget performance to ensure financial discipline within the sub-function.

Internal Business Processes Perspective:

  • Support the execution of the mine’s Asset Management Strategy by assisting with maintenance planning and monitoring asset performance.
  • Help maintain and update performance management information systems for the Engineering Department to ensure accurate reporting and decision-making.
  • Assist in monitoring asset performance of load-out and logistical processes to support achievement of dispatch targets.
  • Provide operational support to coordinate mining activities for optimum and cost-effective ore recovery under guidance from the Section Engineer.
  • Contribute to compiling operational strategies by providing accurate data and assisting in setting achievable production targets.
  • Apply basic engineering standards, principles, and practices in planning and implementing standard engineering outcomes under supervision.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of engineering processes and elements to identify improvement opportunities and report findings to the Section Engineer.

Budget and cost control:

  • B Assist in compiling operational, capex, and labour budget inputs for the sub-function and submit to the Section Engineer for review and approval.
  • Support monitoring of sub-function objectives against approved budgets (operational, capex, and labour) and report any variances to the Section Engineer with suggested corrective actions.
  • Prepare and process payment documentation in line with approved budgets and company policy for review and authorization by the Section Engineer.
  • Identify operational, labour, and capex requirements within the sub-function and provide recommendations to the Section Engineer to ensure efficient delivery of production targets.

Equipment availability and efficiency:

  • Assist in ensuring equipment availability and efficient operations by monitoring performance and reporting issues to the Section Engineer.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by collecting and analysing data on asset utilization, costs, and planned maintenance compliance.
  • Help manage maintenance systems by updating records, tracking compliance, and supporting implementation of new strategies under guidance.
  • Conduct preliminary equipment failure analysis and provide input to solutions aimed at preventing reoccurrences.
  • Assist in managing rotable equipment repairs and asset care activities, and support TMM equipment refurbishment and replacement planning in consultation with the Section Engineer and OEM.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment modifications and upgrades by gathering data and liaising with the Section Engineer during the change management process.
  • Support work planning and scheduling, budget tracking, and cost management activities for TMM capital infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in coordinating labour and contractor activities and contribute to the development and training of learner artisans, artisans, and supervisors through hands-on support and mentoring under supervision.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating Enterprise Asset Management activities across sectional boundaries to support achievement of availability and reliability targets, ensuring effective utilization of manpower and resources.
  • Collect and analyse production and asset performance data against operational targets and report findings to the Section Engineer, highlighting corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
  • Support management in compiling operational strategies and setting achievable production targets by providing accurate data and insights.
  • Assist in preparing and monitoring Capex and CAR budget inputs and help track contractor performance against service level agreements.
  • Monitor spares availability and internal store stock levels and expedite orders where necessary to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Customer / Stakeholder Relations Perspective:

  • Assist in building and maintaining positive internal relationships with peers, unions, teams, and other departments by promoting collaboration and addressing issues promptly under guidance from the Section Engineer.
  • Support the development of healthy external relations with stakeholders such as Head Office, communities, and government representatives by providing accurate information and facilitating communication when required.
  • Ensure internal and external stakeholder needs are understood and communicated effectively to the Section Engineer to help meet functional and departmental objectives.
  • Demonstrate a customer-first mindset by prioritizing stakeholder requirements in day-to-day tasks and escalating concerns for timely resolution.

Organisational & Growth Perspective:

  • Support initiatives to encourage, implement, and improve systems by providing feedback and assisting with system updates and enhancements under guidance from the Section Engineer.
  • Liaise with line functions and management staff to ensure smooth coordination of interfaces that impact production objectives, including maintenance requirements, and escalate issues promptly for resolution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process optimization and reporting them to the Section Engineer.
  • Assist in implementing organizational development actions that align with departmental goals and support long-term growth.

SHERQ Adherence / Compliance

  • Promote adherence to safety, health, environmental, and quality practices and procedures within the sub-function.
  • Identify and report unsafe or potentially hazardous situations promptly to the Section Engineer and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Act as a departmental safety representative under guidance, ensuring compliance with mine standards and statutory regulations.
  • Support the translation of SHERQ goals derived from the business plan into actionable tasks and assist in their effective implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations and mine standards, including PPE usage, safe working practices, and re-entry procedures, by monitoring and reporting deviations.
  • Communicate new regulations and procedures to employees and contractors as directed, ensuring awareness and correct implementation.
  • Assist in rendering basic first aid to injured persons when required or refer to qualified personnel for further care.

Implement Change Initiatives

  • Support initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity, and reducing operating costs by providing data, analysis, and recommendations to the Section Engineer.
  • Assist in implementing functional or departmental change initiatives under guidance, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Help plan and coordinate resources for successful execution of change initiatives within the designated area, monitoring progress and reporting outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process optimization and escalating them for consideration.

Statutory Compliance

  • Assist in monitoring compliance with legislation related to procurement targets, including Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) and Mining Charter requirements, by providing accurate data and reports to the Section Engineer.
  • Support the implementation of procurement policies and procedures that contribute to achieving statutory compliance and departmental objectives.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting related to procurement activities are accurate and submitted on time to maintain compliance standards.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure procurement processes align with legal and organizational requirements.
