A reputable private hospital in Kempton Park is seeking an experienced Infection Prevention and Control Nurse to join their Nursing Services department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing infection prevention and control practices to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, analytical ability, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to preventing and managing healthcare-associated infections.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme aligned with national and international standards.
• Conduct infection surveillance, monitor infection rates, analyze trends, and report findings to management and relevant committees.
• Lead outbreak investigations, coordinate containment measures, and perform root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with infection control policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Conduct audits in clinical and non-clinical areas to assess adherence to infection prevention protocols.
• Develop and deliver ongoing infection control training and education programmes for hospital staff.
• Oversee environmental hygiene, sterilization processes, and safe use of medical equipment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and serve as an infection prevention advisor within the hospital.
• Maintain accurate documentation and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
• Nursing Degree or Diploma with registration as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse.
• Specialized training or certification in Infection Prevention and Control (preferred or to be obtained within a specified period).
• Minimum 2–5 years nursing experience, with at least 1–3 years in infection control or a related role.
• Experience within a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Comprehensive understanding of infection control principles, microbiology, epidemiology, and healthcare regulations.
• Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic healthcare environment and respond effectively to emergencies.
