Introduction

This position will be based at the Minopex Head Office in Johannesburg and will require periodic national and international travel in line with business and operational needs.

Description
To provide senior, specialist SHEQ advisory and implementation support across Minopex projects and operations, ensuring SHEQ requirements are defined early, effectively embedded, and sustained through start-up, ramp-up, and steady-state operations to enable safe, compliant, and sustainable performance

Duties & Responsibilities:

Main Functions

• Effective integration of SHEQ requirements across projects and operations.
• Reduction and control of high and critical operational SHEQ risks.
• Compliance with applicable legislation, ISO standards, and Group SHEQ requirements.
• Effective governance and maintenance of Group operational SHEQ risk frameworks.
• Delivery of professional advisory support to operations and project teams.
Risk Assessment
• Lead and facilitate baseline, project, and task-based SHEQ risk assessments across new projects, operational changes, and existing Minopex operations, including BLRA and IBRA.
• Identify and prioritise SHEQ hazards and risks across the project lifecycle, from studies through design, construction, commissioning, ramp-up, and steady-state operations.
• Ensure risk assessments align with applicable legislation, client requirements, Minopex standards, and international best practice, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 31000.
• Identify critical SHEQ risks and ensure critical controls are defined, implemented, and aligned with operational roles, competencies, and accountability.
• Provide oversight and assurance of site-level risk management and critical control processes across new and existing operations.
• Own and govern the Minopex operational SHEQ risk management framework, including Group risk registers and critical control documentation.
• Support risk-based decision-making during key project and operational phases, including readiness reviews, commissioning, and ramp-up
Gap Assessment
• Conduct structured SHEQ gap assessments across new projects, start-ups, expansions, and existing operations to assess readiness, compliance, and operational risk exposure.
• Assess alignment against applicable legislation, Minopex standards, client requirements, international SHEQ standards, and recognised industry best practice.
• Evaluate gaps in SHEQ systems, processes, controls, competencies, and resourcing that may impact safe and compliant operations.
• Support Operational Readiness initiatives by identifying and prioritising SHEQ gaps requiring closure prior to commissioning and operational handover.
• Develop practical, risk-based SHEQ gap closure and readiness action plans and support implementation and close-out.
• Provide assurance that SHEQ gaps are appropriately addressed and embedded within operational systems prior to start-up and ramp-up
SHEQ System Implementation Support
• Advise on the development, implementation, and improvement of SHEQ management systems to support safe, compliant, and operationally ready start-up and ongoing operations.
• Provide specialist support to projects and operations to ensure SHEQ systems are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and aligned with Group standards and operational risk requirements.
• Support the implementation and embedding of SHEQ systems across new projects, start-ups, expansions, and existing operations.
• Ensure alignment with applicable legislation, client requirements, and international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 31000.
• Support the effective transition of SHEQ systems from project delivery teams to operational ownership during commissioning and handover.
• Provide assurance that SHEQ system elements required for start-up, ramp-up, and early steady-state operations are in place and effective.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Engage with project teams, operations, SHEQ teams, and external stakeholders to support effective delivery of SHEQ risk, compliance, and readiness requirements.
• Act as a trusted SHEQ advisor to owners’ teams, project leadership, and EPC/EPCM contractors across multiple projects and regions.
• Facilitate structured, value-adding SHEQ discussions and workshops focused on risk management, readiness, and practical implementation, rather than audit-style engagements.
• Support alignment of contractors and service providers with Minopex and project SHEQ expectations.
• Communicate assessment outcomes, priorities, and required actions clearly to enable timely decision-making and close-out.
Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare clear, concise SHEQ risk, gap, and readiness reports for project, operational, and executive stakeholders.
• Develop, maintain, and govern SHEQ readiness documentation, risk registers, critical control documentation, and action tracking tools in line with Group requirements.
• Track, monitor, and report progress against agreed SHEQ actions, risk treatments, and Operational Readiness milestones.
• Support the preparation and review of SHEQ documentation required for project handover, commissioning, and operational acceptance.
• Ensure SHEQ records and documentation are controlled, current, and maintained in accordance with Minopex document control and governance requirements

Qualification Requirements:

• Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification registered at NQF Level 4, including relevant NATED qualifications such as the N3 Certificate.
• Degree or Diploma in SHEQ Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.

• Professional SHEQ certification (e.g. NEBOSH, ISO Lead Auditor, or equivalent)
