Responsibilities:
Documentation Management: Preparing, reviewing, and submitting import documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
Compliance & Regulations: Ensuring all shipments comply with local customs regulations, HS codes and trade compliance requirements to avoid fines or delays.
Liaison & Communication: Liaising with freight forwarders, tracking cargo release.
Tariff Calculation: Calculating duties and VAT payable on imported goods.
Problem Solving: Monitoring shipments for, and resolving, customs stops, detentions, or discrepancies.
Candidate Requirements
Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience in customs clearing, freight forwarding, or import/export logistics is usually required (typically 2–3+ years).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of Import & Export ; Export processes, SARS customs regulations, and Incoterms.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Excel and familiarity with customs clearing software
Attention to Detail: High accuracy in data capture and documentation is essential.
Education: Matric (Grade 12) is generally required, with a certificate/diploma in Freight Forwarding or Customs Compliance being advantageous.
Work Environment
Fast Paced: They often work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and prevent Storage charges at ports/airports.
Role Type: Primarily office-based, but requires high interaction with Galderma supply shipping Co-ordinators/ Forwarding companies/ Internal marketing / Sales(KAM’s) / QA / Regulatory)
