Starke Ayres is a leading supplier of premium agricultural products across Africa. We are seeking a customer-focused and detail-oriented Customer Service Clerk to support the company’s sales operations by ensuring accurate, efficient order processing and high levels of customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Order Processing
- Process customer orders accurately and promptly according to priority and customer requirements
- Liaise with depots to ensure correct and timeous order dispatch
- Escalate orders that cannot be processed according to instructions to the National Customer Service Supervisor
- Conduct ad hoc price checks by comparing sales orders with approved price lists and specials
- Refer customers on stop supply or with exceeded credit limits to the Credit Controller for decision-making
- Ensure COD orders above the authorised limit are cleared and approved
- Verify that COD customers comply with FICA requirements
Customer Service & Support
- Provide proactive updates on order status to internal stakeholders and customers when required
- Respond efficiently to customer queries and internal sales-related enquiries
- Maintain professional, courteous, and solution-oriented communication with customers
- Promote sales where appropriate and assist with customer walk-ins
- Control and reconcile cash received over the counter against daily invoices
Administration & Operational Support
- Support the National Customer Services Department with ad hoc administrative tasks
- Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity in all customer and order-related documentation
- Ensure work is completed within required deadlines and service standards
Professional Conduct & Values
- Act responsibly and professionally, upholding the company’s values and ethical standards
- Maintain a positive company image in all customer and internal interactions
- Demonstrate attention to accuracy, accountability, and follow-through on commitments
Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (essential)
- Tertiary qualification in Customer Service or Administration (advantageous)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Administration Clerk or in a similar customer service role
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent customer service and relationship management skills
- Basic selling and communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Proficiency in English and Afrikaans
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
