Employer: West Coast Personnel

Junior Accountant (Growth Role)We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to support the Financial Director with day-to-day financial operations. This role offers hands-on exposure across core finance functions and is ideal for an individual looking to build strong industry experience in a structured, deadline-driven environment.This role is suited to an early-career accounting professional who is looking to develop their skills under guidance and gain broad exposure across the finance function.Candidates who have completed SAIPA articles and are looking to transition into industry are encouraged to apply.This position provides strong learning opportunities, close support, and a clear pathway for development for the right candidate
    Key Responsibilities
    Financial Administration & Record-Keeping
    • Maintain accurate accounting records in line with company policies
    • Capture and process journals, invoices, and payments
    • Assist in maintaining general ledger integrity and supporting schedules
    • Ensure proper filing and document control (physical and electronic)
    Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
    • Process supplier invoices and assist with supplier statement reconciliations
    • Prepare payment schedules for review
    • Assist with debtor invoicing, receipt allocations, and follow-ups
    • Resolve basic supplier and customer account queries
    • Report cash flow variances identified
    Bank, Cash & Reconciliations
    • Perform daily and weekly bank and cash reconciliations
    • Assist with monitoring bank balances
    • Prepare supporting banking and payment documentation
    Management Accounts & Reporting Support
    • Assist with preparation of reconciliations and schedules for monthly management accounts
    • Compile supporting data for management and financial reports
    • Assist with budget tracking and variance support
    Payroll & Statutory Support (where applicable)
    • Assist with payroll administration and record-keeping
    • Maintain payroll supporting documentation
    • Assist with statutory submissions (PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT) under guidance
    Audit & Compliance Assistance
    • Prepare audit files and supporting documentation
    • Assist with internal and external audit queries
    • Support adherence to financial controls and procedures
    Support to the Financial Director
    • Provide administrative and analytical support
    • Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and finance-related projects
    • Liaise with other departments when required
    Systems & Process Support
    • Ensure accurate and consistent use of accounting systems
    • Assist with system usage improvements
    • Support finance process efficiency initiatives
     
    Minimum Requirements
    Education & Qualifications
    • Diploma or Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
    • Relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification
    • Studying towards or completed SAIPA / CIMA / ACCA (advantageous)
    Experience
    • 1–3 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role
    • Exposure to AP/AR, reconciliations, and basic general ledger functions
    • Experience supporting senior finance staff is advantageous
    Technical Skills
    • Working knowledge of accounting software (Sage, Pastel, Xero, or similar)
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook

    • Ability to meet deadlines in a structured environment
    • Good numerical and analytical ability

    Additional Information
    • Willingness to work extended hours during month-end or audits
    • Reliable transport
    • South African citizenship or valid work permit
