THE ROLE

The role delivers financial modelling, valuation, and commercial analysis for renewable energy projects while supporting fundraising, due diligence, and stakeholder negotiations. It also tracks market and policy shifts, evaluates new commercial opportunities, coordinates cross‑functional teams, and guides strategic decisions. Candidates need strong financial modelling skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Project & Corporate Financial Analysis
  • Build, maintain, review and enhance detailed financial models for renewable energy projects, incorporating project finance structures, funding assumptions, sensitivities, and scenarios.
  • Prepare valuation analyses (DCF, precedent transactions, market benchmarks) for projects, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support the preparation of investment papers, board submissions, lender materials, and internal approvals.
  • Analyse financial and commercial terms in project documents (PPAs, EPC, O&M, land leases, grid agreements) to understand financial impacts.
  1. Transaction Support & Funding Activities
  • Support the end‑to‑end fundraising process, including lender engagement, due diligence, data room management, Q&A coordination, and financial workstreams.
  • Liaise with legal advisors to review and refine key project and finance agreements.
  • Assist in negotiations with financing institutions, equity partners, and strategic stakeholders.
  • Conduct credit, counterparty, and risk assessments to support bankability of projects.
  1. Market, Policy & Commercial Analysis
  • Conduct market research to assess energy pricing trends, policy developments, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics in South Africa’s renewable energy sector.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities, potential partnerships, and commercial models for wheeling, bilateral PPAs, and corporate offtake agreements.
  • Monitor and report on national energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and ESG developments affecting project viability.
  1. Project & Internal Stakeholder Management
  • Coordinate cross‑functional project activities across development, engineering, legal, ESG, and finance teams.
  • Track project milestones, financing deliverables, and timelines to support successful financial close.
  • Support the alignment of financial strategies with broader corporate objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Prepare clear, concise presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in corporate finance, project finance, investment banking, consulting, or infrastructure/energy finance.
  • Strong understanding of financial modelling, valuation techniques, and capital structuring.
  • Experience working within renewable energy, infrastructure, or related sectors is advantageous.
  • Exposure to project finance transactions, due diligence processes, or PPA‑based project structures is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ESG principles, sustainability finance, and energy regulatory frameworks beneficial.
