- Bachelor of Science Honours: Geology / B –Tech in Geology.
- Member of Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA).
- Member of South African Council of Natural and Applied Sciences Professional (SACNASP).
- Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
- Advantageous: Masters in Geology.
- 5 – 8 years extensive practical experience in geology and mining.
- Plan and manage all geological activities carried out at the operation and ensure it is computerized. Ensure resource model produced is in line with SAMREC standards. Provide mine planning service to group projects, ensure execution of exploration projects and drill team management.
- Compile budget that integrates with life of mine.
- Make sure budget is allocated for exploration, drilling, modelling.
- Authorise annual departmental budget (operational, capex and labour).
- Effectively manage function/ department and its objectives in line with approved budgets (operational, capex and labour), report variances as required and recommend / implement remedial action within span of control.
- Review and authorise payments in line with approved budget and policy.
- Managing the contractors to make sure they stay abreast to budget to avoid wasteful expenditure.
Internal Business Processes Perspective / Technical:
- Ensure the mining strategy short- and long-term blend with the Life of Mine.
- Mine optimizations by gathering data to inform planning, managing grade ore.
- Coordinates labour within the department to ensure the Geologists comply with all protocols.
- Reports production by collect data on where to mine, resources and reserves.
- Ensure the whole department complies with policies.
- Manage prospecting, exploration, and drilling to be informed about reserves and makes sure samples are collected.
- Manages risk when drilling and mapping.
- Development and implementation of improvement initiatives, standards, codes, guidelines, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and capitalise on opportunities.
- Ensure the efficient and effective management of interfaces which impacts or could potentially impact on production objectives, including maintenance.
- Ensures that ore is mined accordingly and diluted as it is of different quality.
- Ensures that fall of ground is eliminated.
Mine Planning
- Provide inputs and assistance with mine planning.
- Ensure drill plan scheduling is according to plan.
- Conduct mineral resource and reserve modelling, evaluations, calculations, and reporting.
- Conduct mineral resource grade and tonnage prediction conduct monthly and weekly reconciliation and predictions. Compile license application.
- Conduct geological interpretation and modelling. Update geological data on a continuous basis.
Geological data control
- Provide geological reports. Prepare geological plans, sections, and data packages.
- Database creation / management, ore body optimization and modelling.
- Geostatistical evaluation, block modelling, mine design and resource / reserve reporting. Leapfrog / Datamine / SABLE software support and assistance to operators on site.
Mine Geology
- Manage Geological core logging database. Manage optimisation of production area's 5-year plan.
- Manage and approve schedule for drillhole operations, conduct geological interpretation and analysis of results.
- Conduct mineral resource calculations and reporting, conduct mineral resource dimensions modelling. Optimization and preservation of raw material reserves. Structure analysis.
- Do mineral resource dimensions modelling with grade and tonnage prediction.
- Conduct mineral resource, production and mining calculations and reporting.
- Conduct mineralogical investigations. Conduct geophysical / geo-chemical and mineralogical duties.
- Build, manage, and maintain healthy diverse workable internal relations (Peer, Unions, Team, Organisation) and implement remedial actions where required.
- Maintain internal and external relations to ensure functional/departmental needs are met and employees are satisfied.
- Provide relevant and specialized technical support to applicable stakeholders.
- Manage and review performance of subordinates in terms of performance agreements, and participatively discuss performance gaps, and performance improvement and having action plans in place.
- Ensure high levels of discipline in the workplace through the appropriate application of people-related policies and procedures as these impact on performance, discipline, grievances, and ethical behaviour.
- Coordinates innovation and makes sure the team is trained if need be.
- Promote teamwork, provide support, manage, and evaluate performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance contracts for subordinates.
- Ensure relevant information is distributed to make informed and pro-active decisions regarding the functional / designated area.
- Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment.
- Reclassification of the resources and report thereof.
- Promote adherence to safety, health and environmental practices and procedures.
- Identify and address unsafe and potentially hazardous situations.
- Department safety representative.
- Translate SHERQ goals applicable as derived from business plan into clear direction and implement effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure adherence to statutory safety regulations and mine standards, procedures, and practices such as PPE, safe working practices, re-entering periods.
- Effectively communicate new regulations and procedures as and when required to ensure employees and contractor awareness and correct implementation thereof.
- Authorise and drive initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improve productivity and reduce operating costs
- Initiate and lead Functional/ Departmental change
- Implement successful change initiatives, plan, and ensure optimal resource utilisation within designated area.
- Ensure compliance with legislation by setting and achieving procurement targets in terms of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment and Mining Charter requirements.
