Employer: African Mining and Crushing SA (Pty) Ltd

  • The Commercial Manager will be required to be commercially astute, strategic, and proactive, capable of optimising profitability while maintaining strong operational relationships with clients and internal teams.This role will play a critical role in shaping the commercial success and growth trajectory of the business through establishing and implementing commercial strategy, securing profitable contract renewals/new client agreements, improving pricing models and revenue forecasting accuracy, ensuring compliant contract templates and risk mitigation protocols, as well as strengthening client satisfaction and retention metrics.

       Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Lead commercial strategy development and implementation aligned with business objectives.
  •  Identify and secure new business opportunities within the coal mining sector.

 

  • Develop competitive yet sustainable pricing, bids, and commercial proposals for client contracts.

 

     Contract Management

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, service agreements, and amendments.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and mitigate commercial risk.
  • Maintain robust contract performance reporting and issue resolution.

 

    Financial Performance & Forecasting

  • Drive revenue growth while optimising cost structures and margins.
  • Prepare monthly commercial reports, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with finance to support budgeting, pricing models, and profitability analysis

 

  Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, mines, vendors, and partners.
  • Act as primary commercial escalation point for client matters.
  • Facilitate value-adding solutions through collaboration with operations and supply chain

    Operational Support

  • Support operational teams with commercial interpretation of projects and scopes of work.
  • Advise and coach leadership in commercial best practices and negotiations.
  • Track market pricing trends, coal quality impacts, and industry developments.

 


Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Commerce, Mining Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Post-graduate qualification in Commercial/Contract Management, MBA, or related field is advantageous.
  • Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in commercial roles within the South African coal mining industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in crushing and screening operations — ideally in open-cast environments.
  • Proven track record of commercial success in bid development, contract negotiation, and revenue growth.
  • Experience managing commercial functions in a mining contracting business is highly desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a deep understanding of coal market economics, pricing, and contract structures.
  • Knowledge of South African mining legislation, BBBEE frameworks, and industry standards.
  • High proficiency with commercial reporting tools and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • High integrity, ethical standards, and business professionalism.ck market pricing trends, coal quality impacts, and industry developments.
