This position will be based in our Food Lovers Head Office in Brackenfell, Cape Town and will report directly to the Product Development Manager: House Brand Development.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
Food Testing Coordination:
•Oversee microbiological, chemical, and allergen testing of raw materials and finished products.
•Interpret and report testing results, ensuring swift corrective action is taken when necessary.
•Maintain testing schedules in line with HACCP, food safety plans, and regulatory requirements.
Supplier Audits & Approvals:
•Conduct food safety and quality audits of suppliers (domestic and international).
•Maintain and update the approved supplier list, ensuring all suppliers meet internal and regulatory standards.
•Manage supplier documentation including specifications, third-party certifications (BRC, ISO, etc.), and audit reports.
Compliance & Documentation:
•Support the implementation and maintenance of food safety systems such as HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, and GFSI (e.g. BRCGS).
•Ensure compliance with local and international food safety regulations.
•Support traceability exercises, mock recalls, and incident investigations.
Continuous Improvement:
•Work cross-functionally to identify food safety risks and opportunities for improvement.
•Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory change

•Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
•Capable of working independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
•Comfortable traveling occasionally for supplier audits.
•Strong project management and coordination skill.
•Proficiency in root cause analysis and risk assessment techniques.
•Additional certifications in food defense, food fraud, or environmental monitoring.
Candidate Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
Experience:
•Minimum of 3 years' experience in a food safety, technical, or quality role within the food manufacturing or foodservice industry.
•Hands-on experience in food testing and interpreting laboratory data.
•Previous exposure to supplier auditing and approval processes.
•Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems).
Technical Skills:
•Strong understanding of HACCP, GMP, food microbiology, and allergen management.
•Knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., FSA, FDA, EFSA) and certification schemes (e.g., BRCGS, SQF).
•Audit certification (e.g., Lead Auditor, internal auditor training) is an advantage.
