Role Purpose
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organisation’s operations, with a strong focus on budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and regulatory compliance. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial stability, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making through accurate financial reporting and analysis. The position requires a solid understanding of industry cost structures, working capital cycles, and operational economics.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee daily financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Prepare and present monthly and annual financial reports to senior management.
Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Cost Control & Analysis
Monitor and analyse costs related to production, labour, processing, logistics, and overheads.
Establish and track key production cost metrics, including cost per unit and efficiency ratios.
Conduct variance analysis comparing actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with departmental heads.
Provide rolling forecasts, incorporating seasonal trends and market fluctuations.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
Manage cash flow and working capital requirements to ensure ongoing liquidity.
Monitor receivables and payables to optimise the cash conversion cycle.
Compliance & Audit
Ensure compliance with tax legislation, financial regulations, and internal policies.
Coordinate internal audits and provide required documentation, analysis, and responses.
Team Leadership
Supervise finance staff and ensure effective training, development, and performance management.
Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance team.

Candidate Requirements
Role Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional certification such as CA or CPA is highly desirable.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably within agriculture, manufacturing, or a related operational environment.
Hands-on experience working with ERP systems (Sage 300 preferred) and Microsoft Office products.
Technical & Professional Skills
Strong knowledge of cost accounting within agriculture or manufacturing environments.
Excellent financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting capability.
Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear insights to stakeholders.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgement.
Key Performance Indicators
Budget accuracy, maintaining variance within 5% of actual versus forecasted results.
Achievement or exceeding of net profit margin targets set by management.
Cash flow forecasting accuracy of at least 90% on rolling forecasts.
Completion of quarterly internal audits with effective issue resolution.
Finance team performance, with at least 90% of team KPIs met or exceeded.
