Job Description
The Contract Management function within the Legal Department is responsible for the effective management of all mining-related contracts to ensure legal compliance, commercial protection, and operational efficiency. This function supports mining operations, projects, procurement, and supply chain activities by overseeing the full contract lifecycle and mitigating legal, financial, and operational risks.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, review, negotiation, execution, administration, amendment, renewal, and close-out of contracts.
Draft and review mining-specific contracts such as mining services agreements, EPCM and construction contracts, contractor agreements, off-take agreements, joint ventures, and confidentiality agreements.
Ensure compliance with applicable mining and environmental legislation, including the MPRDA, MHSA, environmental laws, and company governance frameworks.
Identify and manage contractual risks related to mining operations, safety, production, and capital projects.
Maintain a centralised contract register and contract management system, including tracking of key obligations, deliverables, penalties, and expiry dates.
Provide contractual and legal support to operations, engineering, project, procurement, and supply chain teams.
Support dispute resolution, claims management, and contractor performance management.
Liaise with external legal counsel on complex contractual, regulatory, and mining law matters.
Develop and maintain standard contract templates, clauses, and contracting procedures aligned with mining industry best practice.
Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and governance requirements

Candidate Requirements
RequirementsDemonstrated experience in contract management within a mining, construction, or heavy industrial environment.
Strong understanding of commercial and mining-related contract law.
Experience managing high-value and high-risk operational and project contracts.
Knowledge of mining regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams in operational environments.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification.
Admission as an Attorney (advantageous).
Postgraduate qualification in Contract Management, Mining Law, or Commercial Law (advantageous).
