Job Description: We are seeking a motivated Apprentice – Engine Workshop Technician to join the Service function within the Distribution Business Segment. This role provides hands-on exposure in a workshop environment, supporting engine and power generation service activities while developing core mechanical, diagnostic, and safety skills.
Key Responsibilities:

Support workshop operations by assisting with general service, repair, and maintenance activities.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop through cleaning, inspection, disassembly, and reassembly of components.
Learn and apply Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and follow approved procedures to perform basic repairs and maintenance.
Assist with accurate documentation, including work completed forms, job cards, and time sheets.
Complete technical and safety training aligned with skill development and business requirements.
Maintain tools and equipment to ensure cleanliness, correct operation, and readiness for use.
Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Proactively report incidents, hazards, equipment defects, or quality concerns to the supervisor.

Candidate Requirements

Required Skills and Competencies:

Ability to repair and maintain mechanical and electrical products under supervision, including disassembly and assembly of engines or power generators.
Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of industry standards and safe work procedures.
Ability to translate customer complaints into structured troubleshooting steps using diagnostic tools, equipment, and software.
Attention to detail when validating repairs and accurately documenting work for warranty, payment, and historical records.
Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

Qualifications and Education:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways:
Option 1 – Nated Engineering Route:

National Senior Certificate (NSC / Matric) with Grade 12, plus
N3 Engineering Studies certificate with passes in:
Mathematics
Engineering Science
Engineering Drawing
Diesel Trade Theory, Motor Trade Theory, or Mechanotechnology
N4 Engineering Studies certificate with passes in:
Mathematics
Engineering Science
Mechanical Draughting
Mechanotechnics
N6 Mechanical Engineering certificate with four subjects passed from the following:
Mathematics
Mechanotechnics
Mechanical Drawing and Design
Power Machines
Fluid Mechanics
Physics
Strength of Materials
Supervisory Management

Option 2 – NCV Route:

National Senior Certificate (NSC / Matric) with Grade 12, plus
NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET college with passes in:
Engineering Process
Professional Engineering Practice
Applied Engineering Technology
Automotive Repair and Maintenance
Mathematics
English First Language
Life Skills
Computer Literacy
