About the Role
The Counselling Hub is a high-volume mental-health service committed to expanding access to affordable, quality counselling in South Africa. We are seeking an HPCSA- or SACSSP-registered mental health professional to take on a hybrid clinical–operational leadership role, overseeing service delivery across the Hub’s three impact areas: Counselling, Training & Development, and Advocacy.
This is an on-site, hands-on position suited to a mental health professional who is passionate about mental health, service innovation and supporting the growth of early-career practitioners. The Project Manager provides clinical guidance, contributes to the supervision structure, and maintains systems that enable reliable, ethical and high-quality service delivery. The role combines programme coordination, clinical support, staff and volunteer engagement, training activities and collaborative problem-solving within a busy, community-facing and telehealth service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead counselling services across both the onsite Hub and the national telehealth programme, ensuring safe, ethical and high-quality service delivery.
- Provide clinical support and supervision to lay counsellors and HPCSA professionals in training, strengthening the Hub’s supervision ecosystem.
- Develop and lead the Hub’s training and development function, coordinating in-service training and practitioner development pathways for lay counsellors, Registered Counsellors in training and other mental-health interns.
- Manage the delivery of psychoeducational and mental-health training workshops for communities, organisations and partners — including subsidised and fee-based offerings that support sector capacity-building and income generation.
- Support the Hub’s research and advocacy work, contributing to ongoing studies, collaborating with research partners, and translating service insights into outputs that strengthen mental-health awareness and system change.
- Build and maintain partnerships across the community and sector, and act as a public representative for The Counselling Hub in media, advocacy and stakeholder engagements.
- Oversee project-level communications and social media content, ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s brand and messaging guidelines.
- Manage day-to-day programme and site operations, leading the onsite coordination and administrative team to maintain a smooth, client-centred service environment.
- Oversee monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) across all impact areas, ensuring reliable data systems, accurate analysis and high-quality reporting, including donor and funder reporting requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Professional registration with HPCSA or SACSSP. Counselling Psychologist (HPCSA) preferred.
- 1–3 years post-qualification experience in counselling or community mental health.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support developing practitioners.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, community-facing environment.
- Competence with digital and administrative tools relevant to service delivery and reporting.
- Demonstrated interest in community mental health, training and service development.
