A B&G Sales Assistant is responsible for providing excellent guest service, promoting and selling retail items, maintaining attractive displays, and ensuring smooth daily operations. This role includes engaging with guests, processing sales, managing stock, and ensuring the retail space reflects the lodge or establishment’s brand and standards. Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & SalesGreet guests warmly and offer assistance with product selection.Provide product information on items such as clothing, accessories, gifts, décor, and locally sourced products.Promote best-selling items and upsell where appropriate.Process sales accurately using the POS system.Handle guest enquiries and resolve issues professionally.Store Presentation & MerchandisingEnsure the retail area is clean, organised, and visually appealing.Set up attractive displays and maintain merchandising standards.Restock shelves and ensure products are properly labelled and priced.Assist with planning and setting up seasonal or promotional displays.Stock ControlAssist with receiving and unpacking stock from suppliers.Conduct regular stock counts and report variances or shortages.Maintain accurate inventory records and notify management of low stock levels.Handle fragile or high-value items with care.Administration & ReportingMaintain accurate cash-up records and submit daily sales reports.Assist with stock ordering when required.Follow company procedures for returns, exchanges, and lost property.Safeguard retail goods and prevent stock loss.Guest ExperienceCreate a warm and welcoming shopping experience for guests.Share knowledge about products, local items, or unique merchandise.Offer gift suggestions tailored to guest preferences.
Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) required.
- Retail or customer service training is an advantage.
- 1–2 years experience as a shop assistant, retail consultant, or in hospitality guest service.
- Experience in boutiques, lodge retail spaces, or gift boutiques is an advantage.
- POS/till experience preferred.
- Strong sales and customer service skills.
- Ability to operate point-of-sale systems.
- Basic numeracy and cash-handling ability.
- Knowledge of visual merchandising principles.
- Friendly, engaging, and confident with guests.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and presentation.
- Ability to multitask in a busy hospitality environment.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and professional.
- Positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond.
- Passion for hospitality and guest service.
- Well-groomed, neat, and presentable.
- Able to stand for long periods.
- Able to move or lift light stock items.
- Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
