DIE CUTTER OVERVIEW.
A die cutter operator sets up and operates machines to cut and shape materials like paper, cardboard, and plastic according to job specifications. Key responsibilities include preparing the machine and cutting dies, monitoring production quality, performing quality checks on finished products, and completing routine maintenance. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot issues and meet deadlines.
A Die Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting die cutting machines to produce packaging components or printed materials according to specified designs. Daily tasks include reviewing job specifications, loading materials, monitoring equipment for quality and safety, and completing routine maintenance or troubleshooting as needed. Operators often collaborate closely with press operators, quality control, and maintenance teams to ensure efficient production and resolve issues quickly. Maintaining detailed records and meeting strict deadlines are also common aspects of the role, requiring strong organizational skills
Job Description.
Operates machine to cut out parts of specified size and shape from materials, such as cardboard, cloth, leather, mica, paper, plastic, or rubber: Places single or multiple layers of material on bed of machine.
Turns handwheel to raise or lower head of machine according to thickness of material or depth of die.
Positions one or more cutting dies on material or clamps dies to head of machine and positions material under dies to ensure maximum utilization of material.
Depresses pedal or moves lever to activate ram that forces die through material.
Removes cut parts from die or bed of machine.
Measures parts with rule or compares parts with standard to verify conformance to specifications.
Stacks parts in storage area according to size and shape.
May sharpen cutting edges of dies, using file or hone.
When operating machine to trim hat brims, is designated Rounding-Machine Operator.
May be designated according to type of die used as Adjustable-Die Cutter; Solid-Die Cutter; or according to part cut as Sole-Leather-Cutting-Machine Operator; Top piece Cutter; Trimming Cutter.
