Security Guard Duties and Responsibilities

Key duties include conducting regular patrols, verifying visitors, enforcing rules and writing OB incidents. 

 

• Conduct regular patrols on foot or by vehicle to deter crime and detect potential hazards.
• Monitor and operate surveillance equipment like CCTV cameras.
• Keep a visible and alert presence to observe suspicious activities and behaviour. 
• Monitor and control entry and exit points, verifying the authorisation of employees and visitors.
• Check for and report any signs of tampering or forced entry on doors, windows and gates.
• Issue and manage access badges for restricted areas.
• Operating scanning equipment in certain locations. 
• Respond quickly to alarms, distress calls and other security breaches.
• Provide a first response to emergencies, including medical incidents, fire or disturbances.
• Coordinate with emergency services like police and fire departments.
• Assist with and facilitate evacuations during emergencies.
• Intervene in conflicts and disturbances, using de-escalation techniques. 
• Write OB incidents documenting daily activities, any irregularities and emergency responses.
• Maintain accurate and thorough records of visitors and their times of entry/exit. 
• Provide customer service and assistance to employees and visitors.
• Ensure the property complies with safety and security regulations.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and report hazards.
