An exciting new opportunity exists for a Coffee Capability Trainer at CIRO in Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Job Specification:
Key Performance Areas:


Conduct Barista training across all modules for both internal and external customers

  • Using the knowledge and skill of coffee to effectively train customers and internal staff.
  • Strong knowledge off Ciro courses offered and how to affectively train them.
  • Ensure that the training plan for internal staff, as per Head Office demands, is implemented.
  • Suggest updates and changes on the training material.
  • Ensure training is done both onsite and in the classroom.
  • Manage the training budgets as per Head Office demands.

Event planning and execution

  • Liaise with the sales team on weekly event requirements.
  • Plan and manage all event stock accordingly.
  • Ensure events are invoiced and managed.

Effectively conduct assessments on trainees

  • Timeously assessing all trainees once training is completed.
  • Ensure the effective and fair assessments of all trainees in line with Ciro training guidelines.
  • Proper follow up and feedback on all assessments done.

Work closely with the sales consultants for CIRO’s customers – specific needs in training and events

  • Weekly meetings with the sales team on feedback and planning of customer training.
  • Know and understand the needs of customers and how to train on the required products effectively.
  • Suggest any possible menu development and ideas.
  • Plan and manage events and customer tastings.

Manage and maintain training centre and equipment

  • Ensure that daily cleaning and maintenance is done on all equipment.
  • Weekly stock count of all equipment, crockery and stock.
  • Order and manage stock requirements for training and events.
  • Timeous reporting of any breakdowns or issues within the training centre.
  • Daily cleaning and maintaining of training centre.
  • Effectively manage the Barista Upliftment training program (BUP) for completion in the given timelines.

Driving training Income

  • Ensure invoices are issued and paid for training done.
  • Driving growth and meeting training budget requirements.

Customer Specific Ciro CORE Evaluation, Training Register and ESO is completed

  • Ensuring that management of establishment signs off the following documents from visit: Ciro CORE Evaluation.
  • Complete the ESO Job card with spares consumed and issue quote or invoice for the visit.
  • Ensuring that the correct online documents are submitted and comprehensively completed at every call as per the prescribed standard set by Key Accounts, Training and the Customer alike.
  • Escalate any findings to Ciro management as well as keeping the customer informed of any irregularities.

Ensuring the In-Cup quality of the coffee

  • Ensure that a freshness test is done on all Ciro products.
  • Ensure that the testing of all products through equipment and completing taste testing, grammage testing and flowability is completed.
  • Test all equipment to ensure it is mechanically, aesthetically and functionally acceptable.
  • Ensure the calibration and programming of equipment to ensure the right quality of coffee products is produced.
  • Assess the staff at each establishment to ensure that the right procedures are followed when making coffee and making related products. Also ensure that the correct cleaning procedures is adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance of quality standards defined by customer Head Office and report irregularities to management of establishment.

Performing Basic Preventative Maintenance of coffee equipment

  • Performing Basic Preventative Maintenance as per service intervals defined within the customer Service Level Agreement (SLA).
  • Ensuring that the maintenance activities are completed thoroughly and signed off by the management of establishment.
  • Ensuring that the whole service kit of spares and filters is consumed and that a job card is signed off by management.
  • Assessing the equipment on site and reporting if any major repair work is necessary with the Technical Department.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 / Matric is essential
  • Completed Coffee Diploma or relevant SCA courses
  • Diploma in Coffee or Beverage Training
  • Minimum 5 years in a Senior Barista role leading and developing new team members

Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledgeable in coffee and on coffee menu and products
  • Strong verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficient in MS office
  • Understaning of the maintenance and management of the training equipment

Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:

  • Dynamic presentation skills and strong ability to create training material.
  • Understands the origin of coffee, preparation from espresso machines, fully automatic equipment and alternative brewing methods.
  • Qualified AST, technical skills and capabilities
  • Maintain relationships with Key Account Managers (KAMs)
  • Manage Barista Upliftment Programme (BUP) and trainers in effectively running the training centre through delegation, training and leadership.
  • Valid drivers license with minimum 2 years driving experience
  • Must be willing to travel and overnight at outlying customers.
