Employer: Unique Personnel

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager
Purpose:
Responsible for overseeing all SHEQ related activities and requirements, and ensure legal compliance as per legislation and company requirements in line with ISO-compliant integrated management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001)
Key performance indicators:
Legal:
Ensures compliance to current occupational Health & Safety legislation and requirements by ongoing monitoring of current processes against the OHS Act. 
Schedule external annual audits: legal compliance, occupational risk assessment, fire risk assessment, medical surveillance, ergonomics, light, noise and fumes 
Conducts maintenance and updating of the H&S Management system to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. (PPE registers, Awareness training registers, all office inspection registers, emergency response simulations etc) 
Review and update the environmental, health and safety plan. 
Schedule and run annual external audit with accredited Company 
The SHEQ Officer must conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals • Ensure all relevant HSE Permits are always valid, and conditions are adhered to by performing regular audits and maintaining records. • Issues relevant work permits to contractors and monitors compliance to legislation while on site.
Management System:
Ensure that the premises is hazard-free, conduct safety checks on work areas and equipment, and takes steps to mitigate risks in the future. 
Draft new policies and review on expected timeframes as per audit outcome or gap analysis (liaise with departments, review current procedures and policies making them meaningful and compliant 
Compile and maintain safety files and other related relevant files for projects and ad hoc work. 
Provide SHE improvement proposals, proposed corrective action, required resources for corrective action and plan of implementation on NCRs issued. 
Scheduling of quarterly Internal Audits 
Record, update and improve all ISO changes in the MIS system. 
Maintain an organised, annual and electronic filing system. 
Liaises with service providers to ensure processing of claims as per COID Act 
Promotes safe working conditions to minimise workplace injuries and assists with incident investigations. 
Identify, implement, and control adequate systems to limit exposure to hazardous substances, flammable substances, electrical, noise, and manual handling risks. 
 Takes charge of emergency evacuations with the assistance of H&S Reps, Fire marshals & First Aiders. 
Ensures the provision of all PPE by evaluating requirements, liaising with suppliers, liaising with procurement, and tacking of issues to staff.
Compile a waste management plan and ensure adherence to plan. 
Chair H&S Committee, First Aid, and Fire Marshall meetings, distributes minutes, and follows up on actionable items. 
Ensures monthly inspections of all first aid kits and fire equipment are completed and registers updated. 
Maintains fire equipment register and arranges services/audits with external service providers (fire extinguishers, pump house, sprinklers, and repairs).
Conducts audits, compiles results and formulates remedial plans with the SHEQ managers. 
Facilitate Weekly walkthroughs with management. 
Ensure compliance to 6’s standards. 
Developing all the required documentation, operational checks and reports for the SHE Management System to be compliant with ISO standards, including corrective and preventive measures. 
Sources toolbox talk/health and safety tips/topics and information for staff education and present toolbox talks at H&S meetings. Distributes safety tip of the month and H&S awareness posters.
Reporting:
Assists employees when injuries occur by completing all medical reports per requirements.
Prepare daily, weekly and monthly SHE reports, statistics and presentations related to SHE performance. 
Coordinate and participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents and near misses. Reporting to DOL where needed.
Writing and management of technical and legal reports 
Attend meetings when required on behalf of the Company's SHEQ department - Management meetings, Staff meetings, Steering Committee meetings (weekly, monthly, quarterly).  Manages the HIRA process and arranges monitoring with external services providers.
Assists in the Compilation of baseline HIRA assessment, categorise and formulate risk profile for all tasks as per OHS Act and maintains HIRA action plan by conducting regular follow up assessments.
Compiles monthly injury statistics for inclusion in monthly reports.
Training:
Identify, plan and coordinate SHE related training for all staff - forklift, first aiders, safety reps, crane operators, fire fighters, stacking supervisors etc 
Ensure safety induction implemented for all staff, contractors and visitors.
Liaises with HR regarding H&S training needs. 

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications:
Minimum of Matric (Grade 12) passed. 
SAMTRAC / NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent SHE certification. 
A related degree or pursuing a related degree (NQF 7). 
3 years' experience in SHEQ environment 
ISO 9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 training – Implementation & Auditing, Incident Investigation
Competencies:
Ability to compile reports.
Computer Literate (MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) 
Strong written and verbal communication skills 
Good interpersonal skills 
Ability to take initiative and suggest improvements. 
Ability to work under pressure. 
Good organizational skills 
Self-motivated 
Team player 
Attention to detail. 
Ability to focus, prioritize and good time management. 
Ability to work independently without supervision. 
Ability to work outside normal working hours when necessary eg prepare for audits etc
