About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior CAD / Vehicle Body Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in truck and vehicle body design, including chassis modifications, frame and sheet-metal design. This role requires both creative and practical design ability, with strong technical understanding of fabrication and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
• Design truck bodies, chassis modifications, and superstructures using CAD (2D & 3D).
• Produce detailed fabrication drawings including sheet metal, structural steel, assemblies,
weldments, and fixings.
• Perform CNC nesting and cutting preparation using ProNest.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, fabrication, supply chain, and engineering teams to
ensure manufacturability.
• Ensure designs comply with vehicle body and road-use standards.
• Manage drawing revisions, BOMs, and documentation control.
• Liaise with suppliers and fabricators as required.
Required Skills
- Autocad: 4 to 5 years
- Designer: 4 to 5 years
- Fabricating Experience: 4 to 5 years
Candidate Requirements
Key Skills & Experience
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
• Strong mechanical and structural design knowledge for vehicle and truck bodies.
• Hands-on experience with fabrication processes (welding, steel, sheet metal).
• Proven ability in CNC nesting using ProNest.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and documentation.
• Proven experience in truck-body or specialized vehicle design.
Desirable
• Knowledge of South African road-vehicle body standards.
• Experience in chassis modifications and commercial vehicle design.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and cross-departmental collaboration skills.
