Purpose of the job

The Lead: MIB Technical supports the Head: Financial Reporting in the formulation and implementation of the MIB Technical plan with a specific focus on the financial services industry, development of relevant technical offerings to members operating within the financial services as well as the valuations experts. The roles also contributes to the development of local or international standards/regulations/policies, engaging with the media and building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Financial Reporting, the Lead: Financial Reporting also contributes to advancing the accountancy profession’s role in delivering transparency, accountability, and trust through financial reporting excellence.

Key/main outputs

Output 1: Leadership in Financial Services

  • Support the Head – Financial Reporting in the execution of strategies to drive the effective implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) within the financial services industry
  • Track local and global developments affecting the financial services and valuations industry ensuring that SAICA remains at the forefront of the relevant trends in these industries
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with regulators, policy makers and other stakeholders to influence the development of standards, regulations and policies
  • Leverage data analytics, digital tools, and AI technologies to enhance financial services and valuations offerings to members and decision-making
  • Implement AI-driven tools to enhance communication with stakeholders. These tools can help in drafting personalised messages, scheduling meetings, and even predicting stakeholder responses based on historical data
  • Implement specific financial reporting tools, guidance and platforms for the regulated and financial services constituencies within the Members in Business Technical constituency

Output 2: Technical Support and Guidance

  • Develop guidance and thought leadership on financial services and valuations matters.
  • Draft technical resources, position papers, and training materials to assist members in complying within the financial services in complying with regulations/standards/policies.
  • Draft technical resources, position papers, and training materials to assist members in complying with valuations standards.
  • Respond and/or perform quality assurance review on member queries on financial services and valuation matters. Provide tailored advice on emerging challenges and standards.
  • Support the Head: Financial Reporting in the development of AI-powered advisory services that provide real-time guidance to members on standards application. This can include chatbots or virtual assistants that can answer queries and provide relevant resources
  • Manage the process of identifying opportunities for developing new technical resources
  • Manage the revision of existing technical resources ensuring that resources remain relevant and up to date
  • Manage internal process that ensures the effective management of relevant forums (Committees, project groups or task/working groups) developing technical resources within the financial reporting space
  • Manage the research process that informs the technical content incorporated in technical resources
  • Support the Head: Financial Reporting in the implementation of automated knowledge repositories to ensure real-time access to technical resources
  • Support the Head: Financial Reporting to strengthen interactive technical advisory services for members
  • Ensure that financial services/valuations technical queries are responded to within the agreed service level agreement

Output 3: Advocacy and Capacity Building

  • Support the Head: Financial Reporting in building capacity among members and stakeholders by delivering workshops, webinars, and training programs on financial services and valuation topics
  • Represent SAICA in national forums, advocating for the South African accountancy profession in global financial services/valuations discussions
  • Implement the financial services stakeholder engagement plan
  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with local and international stakeholders as delegated by the Head of Financial Reporting
  • Support the Head: Financial Reporting in analysing current and future alliances that will add value to members
  • Ensure SAICA representation at relevant local and international stakeholder forums such as regulatory bodies
  • Support SAICA’s committees/interest groups in preparing technical submissions to influence global and local financial services policies or applicable standards

Output 4: Governance and Compliance

  • Support the Head of Financial Reporting in ensuring that SAICA’s financial service technical activities align with the organisation’s governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards
  • Support the Head of Financial Reporting in identify risks associated with the adoption and application of financial reporting standards
  • Provide regular updates to the Head: Financial Reporting on progress, risks, and opportunities in financial reporting

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent
  • Provide training and development opportunities for the Manager: Financial Reporting across SAICA.
  • Foster collaboration and a growth-oriented mindset with team members
  • Support the Head of Financial Reporting in cultivating a high-performing and motivated team
  • Support the Head of Financial Reporting in fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the Financial Reporting function

Output 6: Embrace organisational transformation

  • Actively contribute to cost containment efforts by identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies, optimising resources, and ensuring value-driven decision-making in daily activities.
  • Support SAICA’s transformation into an insights-driven organisation by leveraging data and analytics to enhance decision-making, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement in your area of work
  • Effectively utilise digital tools and technology to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and improve service delivery. Stay informed about new and emerging technologies relevant to your role
  • Adopt and embrace AI-driven tools and automation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness in job-related tasks, while continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes through innovative technology solutions
  • Identify and support SAICA’s management of risks related to sustainability, including environmental risks, regulatory changes and social risks and integrating them into business continuity and risk management plans

Candidate Requirements

Formal Education

  • CA(SA)
  • AGA(SA)

Technical/Legal Certification

  • Knowledge and understanding of Financial Services legislation

 

  • Registration as a member/associate of SAICA

Experience

  • At least seven (7) years` experience (post articles) in a technical or regulatory or standard-setting environment.
  • Financial Services legislation experience
  • Media & public speaking experience
  • Stakeholder engagement experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Financial Reporting: In-depth understanding of global financial reporting standards, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Governance: Knowledge of regulatory and governance requirements impacting financial reporting
  • Business Acumen: An understanding of the principles of business, the application thereof, the opportunities within business and the seizure of such opportunities.
  • Performance and Talent management: An understanding of performance and talent management policies and procedures.
  • HR policy and procedures: Understanding of HR policies and procedures to support people management processes.
  • Information Technology: Understanding of ICT prescribed practices and legislative requirements for data security and information management. Leverage relevant data for insights and decision making.
  • Governance and Compliance: An understanding of governance and compliance related matters.
