Paint-shop Process Engineer

Vacancy Details

Purpose:

  • Support Management in problem solving, delegation, communication, team motivation etc.
  • Train operators, set strategy and monitor progress towards departmental goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report all near miss, first aid incidence & major incidence and adhere to all aspects of OSHACT, ISO/TS16949, ISO14001 and OSHAS 18001
  • Adhere to the company escalation procedures by reporting all safety issues, part quality concerns, process, production or maintenance downtime, manning issues etc. timeously and articulately to the Shift in charge or next reporting level
  • Start an hour before shift starts every Monday morning to ensure all process checks are okayed all PMR, booth, FoZ, oven etc. parameters before starting the line and all documentation is completed & signed by the relevant signatories
  • Ensure all leave, overtime etc. forms are authorized and submitted to management for approval and HR for processing
  • Facilitate stock take and ensure all parts are counted and identified correctly with quantity & date clearly stated on each sample
  • Participate and give regular detailed feedback (including photos where possible) concerning but not limited to safety, part shortages, downtime, quality concerns etc. on the department WhatsApp group
  • Ensure all required consumables, equipment, jigs etc. are ready to start and keep the line running and prepare these for the next shift to avoid unnecessary line delays and stoppages
  • Ensure an updated Action sheet of all defects observed per shift are carried to resolve defects.
  • Have a dedicated focus on the quality of the parts loaded into the Paintshop, check and verify that only good quality raw and rework parts free of dust, flash, fibre, scratch, damage, molding mark etc. are readily available in accordance with the PPC plan
  • Enforce use of standardized process work instructions such as:
    • Avoid hand carrying of parts and use the provided WIP trolleys to move and pack parts into and out of the paintshop
    • Use of Wiping and blowing process per work instruction
    • Etc
  • Write and or update work instructions for all processes
  • Conduct job observations.
  • Attend colour harmony and implement actions coming from it
  • Write weekly and monthly reports on process/lab/paint kitchen performance per KPIs
  • Achieve 87% FTT by eliminating defects affecting production output
  • Ensure elimination of scrapped parts due to defects
  • Ensure all FTT & Polish and scrapped parts are captured on Empro
  • Manage, record and rework all reworks as per the Paintshop rework procedure
  • Ensure all applicable documents and check sheets, not limited to process, are completed neatly, signed, and contain verified & correct data with accurate date and time
  • Report all faulty & dirty jigs to avoid robot damage, poor quality and ensure jig cleaning rotation & verification
  • Maintain regular communication with Jigger, Production planner, Booth operator, Shift in charge, Maintenance & LAB personnel and advise line stoppage in case of serious concern relating to safety, downtime or part quality
  • Attend the daily paintshop RBA meeting to discuss and analyze scrap control, top 3 parts, top 3 defects, root cause and counter measures and ensure data is shared with all relevant departments
  • Attend or hold the daily paintshop green area production meeting to discuss planned vs actual, quality, production & maintenance issues from the previous day
  • Identify and come up with initiatives for cost saving, waste reduction and process & production improvements
  • Uphold discipline as stipulated in the company code of conduct and procedures in relation to but not limited to absenteeism, late coming, poor performance, housekeeping (5s) etc.
  • Provide a minimum of 4 kaizens per month
  • Provide motivation, training and development as stipulated in the company procedures
  • Assume supervisory and/or other roles and responsibilities when required
