Business and pipelind growth has resulted in the need for a SOLAR PROJECT MANAGER who will plan and oversee all aspects of a solar PV installation project, and meet the project's goals on time and within budget.
Project Management:
- Plan, oversee and be accountable for all aspects of the project from start to completion, ensuring deadlines are met, safety standards adhered to and gross profit achieved.
- Define project scope and objectives. Collaborate with engineers etc. to determine the specifications of the project.
- Read all contracts related to the project and ensure terms are adhered to.
- Manage payment milestones to completion.
- Predict resources (manpower, equipment and materials) needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner.
- Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan. Manage and update planned daily work schedules (WBS) and report on any delays.
- Manage the logistics and timeous delivery of all equipment and materials to site according to the project timeline as well as maximising the cashflow for the company (e.g. minimising COD payments, and avoiding orders on account in last week of month).
- Ensure drawings and instructions have been communicated/agreed with installation team.
- Supervise work of others and give guidance where needed.
- Responsible for any delays, emergencies and problems that can arise, communicating them timeously and resolving them.
- Provide project updates on a consistent basis to clients and stakeholders about progress, risks, adjustments, and milestones, submit progress reports via WhatsApp and ensure ongoing communication with client.
- Act as client interface/main point of contact for access and other arrangements with client.
- Weekly & Monthly Reporting via Smartsheets (or other) to Stakeholders.
- Appointed 16.2 (HSE) for each project and ensure all safety standards are met
- Ensure proper project close out (including compiling snag list and ensuring all items / areas are rectified and adjusted to standards and a high quality of workmanship is maintained).
- Compiling hand over file and ensuring all warranties and certificates of completion are in place.
- Perform post project review to find areas of improvement for future projects.
- Willingness to travel
Project Finance and Administration:
- Responsible to ensure budget based on scope of work (BOQ) and project plan includes resource and all other costs.
- Responsible to ensure project costs are within budget.
- Assess impact of delays/resourcing/other issues on budget and escalate timely with proposed solutions.
- Review BOQ, request quotes (when project administrator is not available) and ensure purchase orders are raised and approved.
- Ensure when goods are delivered to site that delivery notes are checked to goods and sent to project administrator.
- Sign off timesheets where relevant and check subcontractor invoices before sending for payment.
- Responsible to ensure permits and licenses from appropriate authorities are obtained.
- Manage HSE audits and compliance to all Department of Labour (DoL) & client site requirements.
Required Skills
- Project Management: 4 to 5 years
- Experience Within The Solar Industry.: 2 to 3 years
Candidate Requirements
Work Experience:
- Proven track record as a successful (solar/renewable energy) project manager.
- In depth understanding of solar installation procedures and materials.
- Experience of managing a team.
- Ability to work ad hoc hours outside of normal working hours, as per project requirements.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage more than one project at a time.
- Ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders and resolve conflict.
- Basic knowledge of HSE site protocols.
- Good communication and negotiation skills. Ability to “think out of the box”.
Qualifications/Other:
- Project management certification or equivalent will be an advantage.
- Drivers licence and own transport required.
