Centre for Learning Technologies
Division for Learning and Teaching Enhancement
Senior Hybrid Learning Designer (Job Level 9)
Ref. SLT/087/0424
Kindly note that only South African citizens from the designated groups will be considered for the position.
The post is positioned within the Centre for Learning Technologies (CLT). The CLT promotes, develops and supports the use of learning technology platforms for learning and teaching at Stellenbosch University (SU). For more information, visit http://www.sun.ac.za/clt
Hybrid learning (HL) at SU is a fast-evolving mode of provision that involves sustained periods of fully online, self-paced learning, combined with synchronous engagement opportunities, to meet the changing needs of a diverse range of students (including working professionals) for flexible and accessible learning opportunities. SU is expanding its portfolio of HL offerings, as well as its exciting new HL course portfolio and requires a talented learning designer to join an HL team that supports academic environments in developing these online and hybrid offerings. For further information, visit http://hybridlearning.sun.ac.za and http://hybridlearning.sun.ac.za/types-of-offerings
The senior hybrid learning designer (SHLD) role involves the innovative learning design and development of high-quality online learning experiences at SU. The SHLD will have the opportunity to help design online and HL offerings (including edX-based courses) by liaising with academic staff and subject matter experts across a broad range of disciplines. In collaboration with the rest of the HL team (which includes colleagues offering multimedia design, digital marketing and project coordination support), the SHLD will also work toward continually testing new, pedagogically-sound approaches to learning design for adult (local and global) learners in the higher education context. To do this, the SHLD will have access to professional development opportunities to continually hone their skills. For each project, they will work closely with their fellow HL team members and academics to better understand the relevant learning outcomes, unique context and prospective students’ needs. This should enable them to structure online learning material in a way that is easy for students to access and navigate, to create engaging and interactive learning activities, and to identify fit-for-purpose digital assessment approaches.
Duties:
• Working with the HL design team to conceptualise learning design and multimedia development briefs for new HL offerings;
• Designing high-quality online learning experiences that are aligned with course outcomes and the intended assessment strategy;
• Working with academics and other project stakeholders to complete projects according to the agreed-upon curriculum design approach and tasks within project timelines;
• Reporting back to the HL coordinator on their progress in design during each phase of the project (from context analysis before the project to critical evaluation after implementation);
• Identifying opportunities for skills development and continual learning within the HLD team;
• Helping to establish and formalise appropriate learning design workflows within the team;
• Liaising with the multimedia production team, including the production coordinator, on the multimedia design briefs and quality checks of multimedia outputs (such as videos);
• Providing training and support for academics and other stakeholders in preparation for online facilitation.
