This is a well established, strong medium FMCG related manufacturer, supplying a variety of customized packaging to mainly the food services industry, as well as the agricultural sector. They are associated to both a national and international group.
The role reports directly to the GM(CEO) of the SA business hence, the various managers of the various operations functions i.e., factory management, logistics & warehousing, procurement etc. falls under this role.
The Purpose of the Role is to lead and drive across all levels of the manufacturing and operational functions to contribute to the achievement of sustainable, profitable growth of the South African business. Develop and drive a manufacturing strategy and its execution to ensure the performance of the operations functions is at an optimum level, with regard to costs and revenue, production, and customer demand fulfilment from the Company.

Key responsibilities will be:
· Oversee the effective management of factory operations and maintenance of the plant to deliver required volumes within the most cost-efficient frameworks to achieve the group’s Factory variance standards.
· Reduce the risk to the business by ensuring the proactive management of OHS, HACCP, BRC, audit, and other legislative requirements to achieve the highest standards of compliance
· Manage the operations budget to deliver performance requirements while managing expenses.
· Manage the interface between the operations functions and other disciplines of the business to ensure the supply of quality products in line with agreed DIFOT targets
· Drive accountability for results across all levels of the operations functions of the South Africa business, including factory management, logistics and warehousing, procurement, planning, quality, and plant/ equipment and maintenance delivering improved efficiencies and achieving improvement across all areas
· Provide leadership that will challenge, develop, and inspire the operations team to focus on improvement across all areas of performance and to deliver on agreed outcomes and objectives, that will build a committed and motivated team.
· Work in close cooperation with Finance and sales to link the planning of the operations functions with forecasting trends.
· Work in partnership with the sales functions and supply chain to ensure management of stock in line with sales requirements.
· Lead in the drive for improvement and innovation in production and maintenance, participate and support product development.
· Ensure effective IR practices and processes are stringently maintained within the workplace.
· Drive quality assurance processes to deliver quality product in accordance with statutory and group requirements.
· Ensure the accurate production, analysis and interpretation of data and reports to inform business decisions at senior management level, including completion of monthly operations report.
· Ensure integrity and completion of all operational reporting requirements in line with broader group objectives and requirements.
· Actively shape and strengthen the culture within the South African business to align with the associated National Group and the associated International Group’s global focus on a culture of achievement
Authority:
· Operational expense authority.
· Authority for purchase of raw materials, and factory costs, approval of maintenance spend
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
· Qualification in Engineering or related discipline
· Proven experience in leadership in a hands-on operational environment. Experience in production management is essential. Commitment to involvement and visibility within the business while taking personal accountability for results.
· Strong leadership skills at senior level management, with clearly demonstrated ability to motivate teams to deliver against the target.
· Results-driven with strong business acumen and with clear understanding of the drivers of business and commercial success.
· Strong analytical capability including the analysis of variances and development of remedial actions.
· Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to influence senior management, including remote management.
· Highest level of personal integrity, clear history of leading by example, and setting consistently high standards for others to emulate.
· Demonstrate the edge required to make the tough yes and no decisions consistent with the Company’s business objective, and the courage to back your own judgment and follow through to achieve results.
· Proactive in approach, setting a clear and concise path to achievement, persevering to achieve desired results. Maintains own energy, setting the standard for others.
· The ability to energize others around common goals.

· Have passion for the business as a whole.
· Proven ability to lead the operations functions of the business, with the flexibility to move between setting the strategy and translating this to operational plans and managing against the achievement of same.
· Track record in driving improvement and delivering improved commercial performance and efficiency of operations.
· Experience in Sales or Marketing in FMCG, Distribution, or similar industry an advantage.
