Project title: Renewable energy to power a small South African community
Location: Stellenbosch University
Degree level: Masters (two positions available)
Various renewable energy technologies are reaching maturity and are being implemented. However, there are questions about how best to match renewable energy technologies to the needs of consumers and communities. This project will investigate how different renewable energy technologies can be implemented within an existing community. The work will include determination of energy requirements and usage schedules for various users in the community, including an agro-processing plant and a hydroponics greenhouse, and then matching these requirements against the supply from a combination of renewable technologies.
The positions are for full-time on-campus Masters studies starting in January 2022, and may require site visits. Projects are fully funded and will be hosted within the Faculty of Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
