An experienced WORKSHOP MANAGER (Machine / Fitter / Boiler Shop) is required for permanent employment based in Richards Bay.
The Workshop Manager reports to the Operations Director and manages the workshop, comprising of a machine shop, fitting shop and boilermaking shop.The Workshop Manager ensures that the manufacturing and maintenance processes are carried out in line with business and customer requirements. The Workshop Manager coordinates the production team to successfully deliver products and services of high quality, within specified time frames, safely and to the customer’s satisfaction. The Workshop Manager oversees the workshop and maintenance schedules and organizes human and material resources effectively.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares daily operating instructions that optimise the performance of the team and communicates.
Prepares long term plans that deliver the strategic plan and result in continuous improvement in his area of accountability.
Ensures all incidents are responded to, reported and investigated in a timely manner.
Ensures all workshop equipment is maintained in good condition according to company standards and South African regulations.
Working from the BOM, ensuring that production orders for the workshop are generated.
Forecasts the manufacturing/assembly hours in conjunction with operators.
Monitoring of actual hours vs quoted hours
Participates in quotation/tender processes.
Provides technical guidance to the workshop team during the manufacturing and assembly processes.
Monitors schedules and ensures implementation accordingly.
Ensure SAP system is updated with relevant production information.
Report problems and possible delays to relevant parties.
Maximises asset and resource optimization to ensure that production targets and quality standards are met.
Preparation of workshop forecast for budget meetings
Ensures products and services meet customer satisfaction.
Initiates daily follow up meeting.
Compiles weekly KPI monitoring.
Implements and manages a maintenance plan for the site.
Requests relevant maintenance services to be arranged by Procurement.
Where possible, schedules maintenance activities with internal resources.
Ensures maintenance is carried out safely and in accordance with scope of work.
Provides feedback on contractor performance.
Creates a good working environment through leadership, guidance and team support.
Manages team leaders, organises staff and ensures that targets are achieved.
Manages HR related issues with support from HSE/HR/CI Manager.
Delay and efficiency
Ensures effective planning to achieve required lead times as per customer requirements.
Highlights time discrepancies and proposes corrective action plan.
Focuses on quality delivery and minimizing cost impact as a result of quality.
Participates in NCR meetings and discussion to prevent re-occurrences.
Maintains a goal of zero defect by choice.
Ensures compliance to HSE procedures and regulations.
Complies with roles and responsibilities.
Ensures production and maintenance is carried out in accordance with the OHS Act (83 of 1995).
Complies with the companies’ Golden rules.
Appointed as Section 16.2.
Develops and maintain a safe workplace for all employees and contractors
Ensures controls are in place that protect own and others’ health and safety, the environment and the plant
Coaches there team to reinforce safe practices as well as promptly correcting unsafe practices
Lead by example in achieving HSE targets (FSOD & GRA’s)

Red Seal Trade Qualification (adv)
Management diploma OR Business Qualification, BTech or similar (adv)
