Main purpose of the job

To plan, direct, manage, and develop Library and Information Services of the university campus libraries (Bloemfontein & Welkom), in line with the university’s vision

Main tasks

1. Develop policies and strategic plans for the library

6. Manage the performance and development of staff

2. Manage and ensure implementation of the library services (Circulation; Systems Management, Cataloguing and Information Services)

7.  Be critical of technologies and demonstrate ability to compare technologies

3. Provide advice and support to academic managers, researchers and lecturing staff

8. Develop, manage and monitor a budget for the library

4. Implement output monitoring systems within the library

9. Provide reports internally and to other stakeholders

5. Vision to translate traditional library services into the online medium

10. Represent the library at internal and external forums


Candidate Requirements

 

Candidates will be recruited and appointed in accordance with the Employment Equity and Affirmative Action Programmes of the Central University of Technology, Free State.

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or

Experience

·         Masters degree, library studies or equivalent

·         8 years in the library environment, with 3 years in a management role

Desired Qualification, Knowledge and/or Experience

·         PhD, library studies or equivalent

·         10 years in a library environment, with 5 years in a management role within a higher education library environment
