About the role

We are looking for a Technician: Chemical – Technical & Asset Management – Analytical Services to plan and execute analytical development, improvement of routine analysis techniques and evaluations toward offering production support.

Reporting to the Superintendent  - Spectroscopy Laboratory, you will be:

  • Perform chemical and instrumental analyses on final products, raw materials and ad hoc development samples.
  • Conduct calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical programs on laboratory instruments such as XRF, Spark OES, ICP, XRD, and Carbon & Sulphur Analyzer (incl. Leco).
  • Monitor control samples and take appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance with set limits.
  • Ensure shipments are certified within scheduled time.
  • Issue certificates and non-compliance reports.
  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion the Supervisor.
  • Assist on the investigation of customer queries, product non-conformances, and customer complaints.
  • Write reports and present information at various forums.
  • Liaise with customers and provide relevant updates.
  • Will be required to perform Laboratory stand-by duties after normal working hours and weekends.
  • Maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards and practices

Candidate Requirements

About you
To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • BSc/B-Tech: Analytical Chemistry.
  • Post graduate degree: Chemistry would be an advantage.
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in a Lab environment.
  • 3 year proven experience in developing and implementing analytical programs for XRF, Spark OES, ICP, XRD, and Carbon & Sulphur Analyzer (incl. Leco).
  • 3 years’ experience in a Mining / Metallurgical Lab.
  • Experience in Wet Chemical environment would be an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of statistical evaluation techniques.
  • Driver’s License: EB (Code 08).
