Reporting to the GM Fruitways Agri – Services this career opportunity for a Research & Innovation Manager is available to a competent highly motivated individual who will join our fast-paced and vibrant team in our Agri Services division at our Glen Elgin, Grabouw office. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research horticultural best practice and identify new initiatives that are suitable to trial in house
  • Identify and plan experimental trials to provide input for decision making in terms of best practice applications and manage the R&I initiatives
  • Maintain up to date detailed record of the trial outcomes and communicate to relevant stakeholders (reports & presentations)
  • Manage new varieties and coordinate the research related to existing varieties
  • Establish and maintain professional networks with academic and research institutions
  • Develop and maintain horticultural best practice process documents by adding conclusive findings to policy document
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external growers, clients, consultants and service providers
  • Provide best practice advice to target audience
  • Design and compile monthly communication newsletter for grower audience
  • Plan, design and present relevant horticultural workshops to target audience
  • Negotiate relevant needs with regards to specific equipment requirements and identify most appropriate solutions
  • Manage and motivate Research & Innovation team subordinates according to set parameters

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Agricultural degree, minimum BSC.
  • 5 Years’ experience
  • Strong Horticultural knowledge
  • Understanding of science and practical application thereof
  • Computer literate
  • Project Management skills
