To conduct laboratory operations within a commercial environment, according to QMS and Accreditation requirements

  1. Conduct tests and generate test results and reports thereof

  • Plan and prepare to conduct tests

  • Receive and record all samples from clients  before testing

  • Conduct manual or automated tests and generate test results

  • Analyze recorded or generated test results

  • Interpret test standards / methods and generate reports

  • Coordinate testing schedules with the team during testing

  1. Apply calibration and maintenance procedures

  • Prepare and apply calibration procedures

  • Demonstrate the appropriate maintenance and basic trouble shooting requirements

  • Calibrate and verify test equipment

  • Process proficiency samples

  • Participate in in-house test validations

  1. Participate in maintaining the quality management system and accreditation of the laboratory  

  • Conduct all activities assigned to maintain the Quality Management System and Accreditation

  • Maintain all aspects of the laboratory’s quality system in accordance with the Quality Manual and the laboratory’s accreditation to the relevant ISO standard e.g. ISO 17025, IEC CB Scheme and OHS requirements

  • Prepare for internal audits and maintain alignment to audit processes

  1. Adhere to SABS HSE policies and procedures

  • Ensure responsible housekeeping within the work area at all times or as directed by management

  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all safety principles and procedures

  • Keep up with all the changes in the OHS requirements

  1. Deliver excellent customer service

  • Provide excellent customer service by meeting and exceeding the client requirements

  • Handle queries and resolve problems within sphere of control

  • Register and attend to customer issues within the agreed time frame and follow up on customer queries and complaints at all times 

  1. Optimize own performance within the team

  • Participate as a productive team member

  • Manage own performance in order to meet departmental objectives

  • Contribute to diversity management initiatives and build business relationships

  • Seek guidance and mentorship from more experienced team members where necessary

  1. Ensure that all administration and reporting is kept up to date (within scope of control)

  • Ensure on time submission of accurate subsistence and travel claim,   reports, time sheets and any other related documentation

  • Assist with technical specifications/ requirements to generate quotations

Minimum Qualifications requirements

  • Degree / National Diploma in Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledge of the ISO 17025/ IEC CB systems and OHS requirements

  • Computer Literate (MS Office suite, Internet etc)

  • Minimum 3 years work experience within a laboratory environment or similar
