Durnacol Skills Hub is currently looking for a Millwright to undertake facilitator duties and the associated functions of preparation, assessment, moderation and curriculum development. 

Job Tasks for Facilitator

  • To engage in class lecturing/ facilitating that will foster a purposeful progression in learning and which is consistent with the learning areas and programmes of subjects and grades as determined.
  • To be a class lecturer/ facilitator/ workshop instructor.
  • To prepare lessons taking into account orientation, regional courses, new approaches, techniques, evaluation aids, etc. in their field.
  • To carry out assessments, both formative and, when required, summative assessments to specified quality standards.
  • To carry out moderations when required to ensure quality training.
  • To take on a leadership role in respect of the subject, learning area or phase, if required.
  • To plan, co-ordinate, control administer, evaluate and report on learners’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • To continuously update training guides (both facilitator and learner guides) to reflect the latest in technology and process, and to develop new training guides for new programmes as required by the relevant institution.
  • To develop new training programmes or training courses to meet the changing requirements of industry, commerce and communities.
  • To recognize that learning and skills development is an active process and be prepared to use a variety of strategies to meet the outcomes of the curriculum.
  • To establish a classroom/workshop environment which will stimulate positive learning and actively engages learners in the learning process.
  • To consider and utilize the learners’ own experience as a fundamental and valuable resource.
  • To cater for the educational and general welfare of all learners in his/her care.
  • To co-ordinate and control all the theoretical knowledge and practical skills activities of each course taught.
  • To control and co-ordinate stock and equipment which is used and required.
  • To participate in agreed educator appraisal processes in order to regularly review his/her professional practice with the aim of improving lecturing, learning and management.
  • To contribute to his/her own professional development as well as his/her colleagues
  • To participate in committees, seminars, courses in order to contribute to and/or update one’s professional views/standards.
  • To carry out any reasonable task or activity assigned by one’s immediate supervisor, which is in accordance with one’s abilities, by virtue of the training and professional development provided by the employer.
  • Maintain all equipment and buildings in his area of responsibility.
  • Plan and promote events and social recreational activities.
  • Participate in learner recruitment and selection.
  • Confer with potential customers regarding needs and advise customers on types of service to purchase.
  • Assist in coordinating activities involving sales of services.
  • Represent company at meetings to promote service.
  • Visit customers to stimulate interest in establishment or expansion of training programs.
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with learners, focus groups, and/or consultation with managers, or customer representatives.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will fulfill in the following requirements. 


Education and Qualification:

  • Matric Certificate / Grade 12
  • Trade Test Certificate (Red seal) in Fitting & Electrical = Millwright
  • A minimum of N3 qualification


Industry Experience:

  • Worked a minimum of 5 years as Millwright
  • Previous exposure as an assessor and/or moderator would be an advantage
  • Mentoring apprentices in the workplace would be an advantage


Technical Abilities:

  • Mechanical and Electrical maintenance exposure
  • Pneumatics and Hydraulics exposure
  • Interpretation of circuit diagrams and fault-finding
  • Good knowledge of pumps, seals, valves, conveyors, drive units, gearboxes, industrial brakes & clutches, etc
  • Alignment and maintenance of equipment
  • Using various instruments (DTI) to do alignment of direct & indirect drives
  • Basic rigging
  • Basic welding
  • Good with fault-finding
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Skills in hand- and power tools
  • Facilitation of training
  • People skills
  • Safety conscious 
  • Compiling of a detailed report on mechanical equipment and machinery (inspections), planning of work and execution of preventative maintenance tasks



  • Full English language command
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Intermediate PC Proficiency
