Kirstenbosch or Pretoria National Botanical Garden (Contract position – 3 years)

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-driven professional to develop, manage, coordinate and facilitate projects involving SANBI and other partners as part of the network of partner’s model, specifically projects to enhance biodiversity information management and policy advice.

SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary package ranging from R707 557.00 to R990 581.00.

Candidate Requirements

This position requires a Masters in Environmental Management or Environmental Sciences enhanced by 10 (ten) years’ relevant work experience as well as experience in project and financial management. Management level experience in government, exposure to the PFMA requirements and Professional Project Management certification (Prince2/PMP/CAPM or equivalent) would be an added advantage.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to demonstrate the implementation of partnership projects. The candidate must have excellent computer literacy, and experience in the use of project management applications. Possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B/EB driver’s license, with at least one year’s driving experience, is a further requirement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project content and reporting: consolidate and/or write-up project content; write and/or manage project reporting;
  • General project management; manage, coordination and strategically support inter-divisional projects (project planning, management of deliverables, meeting, travel, governance, partnership and equipment);
  • Financial management: manage and coordinate project finances;
  • Human resource management: manage and coordinate people resources for project (staff, consultations etc);
  • Project research and development: Developing project proposals, securing funding, engaging and securing project partnerships;
  • Human Capital Development and transformation: Implement and drive change.
