We currently sourcing for an Assistant Head Chef based in Port Alfred in Eastern Province.

Overview of position:

The Assistant Head Chef performs a variety of food preparation duties in his/her capacity as second-in-command, including both supervisory and cooking duties.

Job Duties:

  • Assistant Head Chef/Sous Chef will aid the Head Chef with skilled food preparation and cooking;
  • Assist with training subordinate chefs and supervise their work;
  • Responsible for reviewing kitchen inventory and estimating what foods are needed;
  • Oversee the storage and disposal of leftover food products, and help to make sure that the kitchen is clean;
  • Assist the Head Chef develop and test new recipes, and maintain records of what food has been prepared and what ingredients were used;
  • In addition, the Assistant Head Chef may be responsible for running the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree/diploma in the culinary arts or in a related area, such as hospitality;
  • 2 years plus experience as an Assistant Head Chef/Sous Chef;
  • 5+ years of previous Chef related experience;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Good hygiene standards.
