A vacancy exists to become the in house Mettalurgist and Processing specialist within AfriMet Resources AG, Switzerland with operations in Rwanda, DRC and Nigeria.

THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

 To manage the setup, processes and procurement of machinery required for the processing centers scattered across Africa.

ROLE OF THE CANDIDATE

Managing the provision of Metallurgical technical services and support and setup of the machinery in the locations where Afrimet Resources AG.

 

  • operations and projects in DRC, Rwanda and Nigeria
  • processes of upgrading and cleaning Tin and Tantalum concentrates
  • support the small scale mining operations with technical support with the aim of improving recoveries and safety
  • Procure the needed machinery for the purchasing stations 

Accountabilities

Technical accountabilities

  • Provide Metallurgical consulting services, leadership and support including:
    • Supporting the development and execution of robust strategic plans for all the assets within the Africa Operations.
    • Drive Operational Excellence within the discipline through the identification of the correct metrics and setting of technical performance expectations for each operation.
    • Ensure operational frameworks are being established at plants and that suitable systems, processes, procedures and tasks are implemented to the required standards.
    • Managing the provision of timely and capable services and support in respect of metallurgy, integrated into mining, engineering and geotechnical as appropriate.
    • Provide discipline specific technical support to the SVP Business Improvement/Global Supply Chain in regard to reporting cost and operational performance.
    • Identifying and monitoring progress against cost and operational performance for all operations and ensuring timely, accurate and relevant reporting to the SVP Technical, operations, General Managers and other parties as appropriate.
    • Conducting ongoing technical appraisals of all Africa operations, with appropriate follow-up services and support to the operations’ managers.
    • Ensuring a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Technical Group and across Africa Operations.
    • Ensure compliance at the highest practical levels in all Metallurgical operations with regards to the ICMI.
    • Governance, technical due diligence and support to capital projects with regards to metallurgical plants and tailings facilities.
    • Design, commissioning and ramp-up support as required with new operations.
  • Contributing productively as a member of the Technical team. 

People accountabilities

  • Leading and developing the Africa Metallurgy team to suit the requirements of the company
  • In accordance with the Discipline Health Procedure, apply the following:
    • Implement Metallurgy Discipline Framework principles in recruitment and people management

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Ability to manage strict deadlines.

Candidate Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree qualification in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in the mining industry
  • A relevant business qualification
  • Preparedness to undertake extensive business travel
  • Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain including mining, geotechnical, metallurgy, tailings and projects
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Ability to take a five-year whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities
  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking
  • Demonstrated capacity to make sound short-term tactical decisions – quickly assembling and interpreting data to successfully action priorities
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role
  • Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement
  • Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people, including leading high performing professional teams
  • Demonstrated capability and willingness to explore and embrace different cultures
  • High energy and level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals for self and team
  • Preparedness to take a well-reasoned stand on matters of importance
  • Well-developed industry networks
  • Strong track record of success at managerial level in the resources industry
