KEY CRITERIA - Completed SAICA articles and proven leadership experience outside of professional accounting practice in the internal financial audit area.   With retail /FMCG being quite different to corporate arena's related industry background will be important for a good fit.  Travel cannot be an issue - see below for store locations.  Important to also note that the culture of this environment is that everyone is expected to be hands-on and get their hands dirty when necessary.  

This cohesive group of entrepreneurs with their Head Office based in Johannesburg South have a national footprint of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) branded stores.   Stores - Western Cape x2 (Athlone & Khayelitsha),  Gauteng (Brakpan), North West Province (Rustenburg) x 3, North West Province (Vryburg) x2, Northern Cape x 2 (Springbok & Kuruman), Free State (Welkom) x1, Eastern Cape (Port Elizabeth) x 1. 


Purpose Internal Audit:  Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes

Overall accountability of area of responsibility -

  • Objectively review organization's business processes
  • Evaluate the efficacy of risk management procedures that are currently in place
  • Protect against fraud and theft of the organization's assets
  • Ensure that the organization is complying with relevant laws and statutes
  • Make recommendations on how to improve internal controls and governance processes 

Duties of the Financial Auditors / will currently oversee 3 Auditors:

  • Ensure debtors are trading within approved terms
  • Limits of authority are being observed in the process of allowing credit
  • Fixed asset registers are being properly maintained including proper authorisation levels in regards to Sales, Transfers, acquisitions and disposals (Scrap)
  • Fixed assets are being adequately tagged and identified
  • Review and maintain user access to banking facilities
  • Evaluation of insurance risk exposure in terms of Stock and Cash
  • Review of cash office processes and flow in terms of set company procedure and policy
  • Ensure manual supplier payments are properly authorised, actioned and processed in terms of set procedure and limits of authority
  • Review of event, seasonal, Birthday and other promotional claims. Ensuring the treatment is in line with approved policy and correct treatment against supplier accounts
  • Evaluation of cost adjustments to inventory ensuring proper limits of authority are being adhered to
  • Evaluation of Arch enterprise process specifically New creditor and debtors' listings
  • Checking process of GRV’s done including accuracy (balancing GRV to invoice)
  • Service department counts and verification
  • Monthly Liquor stocktake and corrective action (Hazards)



Candidate Requirements

  • Non-negotiable is completed SAICA articles
  • Accounting degree
  • Retail / FMCG related industry experience preferred 
  • Proven leadership experience in this field 
  • Required on occasions to attend stock takes on weekend
