Reporting to the Medical Manager, the incumbent will be responsible to provide medical advice, disability assessment, training and support to all disciplines and stakeholders of RMA to enable effective, prompt and correct adjudication of claims and medical management of patients in terms of the various policies, administered by the Company.
Qualifications and Experience required
MBChB (Medical Practitioner)
Post graduate Occupational Health qualification diploma / degree
Registration with appropriate Professional Body (Health Professions Council of SA and Medical Protection Society)
3 to 5 years relevant industry experience as an occupational medical practitioner
Insurance and/or Medical Aid experience
Valid Code 08 Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies required
Excellent knowledge of and experience with Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act
Excellent knowledge of Occupational Diseases in Mines and Works Act
Knowledge of the Health and Safety Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act and Labour Relations Act
Knowledge of Principles of Managed Health Care
Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Negotiation and Persuasion Skills

Key areas of responsibility
Effective, prompt and correct assessment of claims and medical management of patients in terms of the various policies, administered by the Company.
Perform Impairment Assessment in terms of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
Provide reports on Impairment Assessments / Impairment percentage ratings
Provide advice, medical and technical support to claims, pensions employees, legal and compliance.
Assist and advise on RMA Pensioner Care in terms of COID
Assist in the managed health care of RMA patients
Employee and external stakeholder engagement and training
Participate with Special projects
