PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of the Production Manager position is to execute the production plan and ensure that production targets are met. The Production Manager must ensure that the production line functions at optimal capacity so that production deadlines and quality standards are met. The following roles fall within the ambit of this position:

  • Production Management (40%)
  • Execution of Production Plan (20%)
  • Coordination and control of manufacturing processes (20%)
  • Quality Control (10%)
  • HR Administration of factory staff (10%)

1. Production Management

a)  The Production Manager will oversee the end to end production process through line management of the Production Planning, Manufacturing, Spray and Assembly Team Leaders.

 

b)  The Production Manager will ensure that production deadlines and costing mandates are met by:

  • Reviewing and adjusting production schedules where necessary
  • Determining and managing the human and material resources required to meet production targets
  • Determining and improving production processes
  • Preparing and maintaining production reports
  • Ensuring that health and safety regulations are adhered to

 

c)  The production Manager will determine and evaluate the capacity of the whole production process. This will include

  • Time studies on existing products
  • Time studies on new products
  • Determine the capacity of key manufacturing processes.

2. Execution of Production Plan (20%)

  • Implementing, controlling and amended productions schedules as per production plan
  • Ensure the redistribution of resources as needed to complete the production process.

3. Coordination and control of manufacturing processes (20%)

  • Ensure materials and equipment are correctly used in order to fulfil production deadlines and meet quality standards
  • Establishing and documenting production procedures.
  • Overseeing that all departments are performing tasks according to the established procedure

4. Quality Control (10%)

The Production Manager is responsible for ensuring that goods are produced to the required quality standards by:

  • Manage the distribution and issuing of production drawings.
  • Requesting and keeping record of engineering and concession changes to the design plan of items produced
  • Taking responsibility for the SABS audit and related processes

5. HR Administration of Factory Staff (10%)

The Production Manager is responsible for the following HR Administration tasks in the factory:

  • Overseeing the responsibilities of the team leaders in Fabrication, Spray and Assembly.
  • Disciplinary action of all MEIBC members and other factory personnel
  • Ensure that health and safety standards and procedures are adhered to
  • Conduct regular security checks to minimize theft
  • Keep record of training interventions for annual WSP/ART submission
Candidate Requirements

Academic requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Production management, minimum NQF5
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience

Technical knowledge and skills

  • Experience with use of a production planning and scheduling system
  • MS Office
  • SYSPRO (not required but would be an advantage)
  • ISO 9001 (not required but would be an advantage)

Experience

  • At least five years’ experience as a Production Manager in a similar environment
