Snackworks is responsible for the biscuit and snacking portfolio under AVI. A vacancy has become available for an Agronomist, based at our Snacks factory in Rosslyn. To be considered, candidates must have completed a degree in Agriculture or Agronomy, have at least two years' experience in the potato or maize industry, and have the ability to work independently.

Ensuring continued supply of potatoes of a certain quality to the factory to make it possible to run the production plan
Proactive approach to develop strategy for potato supply
Manage relationship with farmers to ensure delivery on agreed contracts
Monitoring of Crops
Sampling of Crops to gain a clear view of what to expect on incoming potato loads that can affect the production plan
Signing of potato contracts according to the demand of the factory
Communicate deviations (potato shortfalls) from the plan to the factory
Potato quality improvement programme including dealing with new varieties, pesticides, insecticides and improved agronomy into Crop Management

At least 3 years' experience gained within a similar role in the maize or potato industry

A relevant completed Degree in Agriculture or Agronomy

Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and regulatory issues
Technical knowledge of crop inputs
Demonstrated ability to interact with commercial grain industry and farming community
Ability to assimilate large amounts of technical data and condense it into understandable information
Strong commercial mindset
