Meet Nthabiseng Mashego, Stock Control Admin Clerk

Nthabiseng is a Stock Control Administration Clerk for one of South Africa’s large wholesale retailers. In this article she tells us about her career in administration.

Nthabiseng’s journey with Makro began five years ago as a cashier for Makro. The following year she participated in the company’s cadet programme. Upon completing the programme she applied for a goods receiving admin clerk position, but unfortunately she didn’t get the job. A week later Makro offered Nthabiseng a stock control admin job. “It was a great opportunity for me to grow in the business, especially as I have some stock control experience which I obtained through Makro’s cadetship programme,” she says.

Stock control administrators are responsible for performing a combination of tasks which include ordering, receiving, storing, issuing and transporting materials, supplies and equipment. They need to ensure that the regulation of in-stock level complies with inventory parameters. Nthabiseng further explains the nature of her job: “I deal with claim queries made by Makro stores regarding a short supply of stock as well as damaged stock. The job is mentally challenging because when a claim is made, I need to investigate how the problem occurred before processing the claim.”

We asked Nthabiseng why she loves her job, and she shared the following. “I love that I feel at home. At Makro we’re all about teamwork; my team and I are always there to assist each other, and we pride ourselves in what we do.”

What advice does Nthabiseng have for people hoping to follow in her footsteps? “You need to love your job, enjoy working with people, be dedicated to your work and always be ready to learn and develop yourself.

Makro is always willing to invest in employees who work hard, and that is where the growth opportunities lie. Lastly, treat your team members with respect and be ready to take on any task that is given to you.”
