Cronje and Cronje Chartered Accountants is a leading South African cloud-based accounting firm. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, companies (ITR14), trusts, and other entities in compliance with SARS regulations.
* Handle VAT, PAYE, Provisional Tax (IRP6), and other statutory tax filings and submissions.
* Registration of various tax types at SARS.
* Engage with attorneys and SARS in dealing with and finalisation Late Estate applications.
* Advise clients on tax planning strategies to minimise tax liability and ensure compliance with local legislation (Income Tax Act, VAT Act, etc.).
* Perform tax risk assessments and ensure accurate and timely tax reporting.
* Manage SARS audits, disputes, and correspondence, including drafting objections, appeals, and attending consultations when necessary.
* SARS and SARS e-filing related administration, upkeep and engagement.
* Supervise and mentor junior tax staff, review their work, and ensure quality standards are met.
* Keep up to date with changes in South African tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and internal teams.
* Building and maintaining strong client relationships, understanding their needs, and ensuring high-quality tax consulting and tax planning services.
* Detailed knowledge of Tax emigration process, ceasing tax residency, calculation of exit taxes as well as dealing with the application and related AIT process.
* Detailed knowledge of dealing with Expat tax returns.
* Engage with other divisions and staff within the firm ensuring sufficient tax related support are provided on tax related matters, including the upkeep of Tax schedules and registers.
Candidate Requirements
The candidate should have:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field (Postgraduate Diploma in Tax or HDip Tax is an advantage).
* Registered with SAICA or SAIPA (can be an advantage).
* Minimum 3 years of experience in tax accounting, preferably within a professional services or audit firm.
* Strong working knowledge of SARS eFiling and tax compliance systems.
* Familiarity with accounting and tax software (e.g., CaseWare, GreatSoft, Draftworx, or similar).
* Solid understanding of South African tax legislation, including Income Tax, VAT, Cross Border international tax and double taxation agreements.
* Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.
