Job Summary:
The Senior Process Engineer will be the central process engineering resource for the Group internationally, supporting operations in South Africa, Australia, and the USA. The role involves overseeing and optimizing magnetite milling, processing, and packaging while driving efficiency, cost reduction, product quality, and troubleshooting. The Senior Process Engineer also plays a key role in capacity and capability expansion projects. Close collaboration with operations and maintenance teams is essential for continuous improvement. The position requires regular travel to customers, raw material suppliers, and the Group office in Johannesburg, as well as international travel to operations in Australia, the USA, Mozambique, Botswana, and other strategic locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the process engineering team in managing daily operations.
Develop, implement, and monitor process optimization strategies to maximize throughput and efficiency while maintaining product quality standards.
Analyse production data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Design and execute test work for process improvements, including trials and plant modifications, to enhance overall plant performance.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues and minimize downtime.
Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for management, highlighting plant performance and improvement initiatives.
Train and mentor operational staff, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process control strategies for all plant equipment, ensuring consistent and efficient operation.
Engage with customers to address and resolve product quality issues, ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining long-term relationships.
Collaborate with suppliers and engage with sources and potential sources of raw material to ensure a consistent supply of quality feedstock for the plant.
Manage and run projects related to capacity expansion, the establishment of new production facilities, remote processing units, and other strategic developments aimed at enhancing plant capabilities and efficiency.
Provide technical support to global operations, sharing best practices, resolving issues remotely, and assisting in the optimization of processes across different sites.

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related field.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in process engineering within the mining or mineral processing industry, preferably with experience in magnetite processing or milling plants.
Strong knowledge of comminution, classification, magnetic separation, and filtration processes.
Proficient in process simulation software and data analysis tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to plant operations.
Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of leading cross-functional teams and interfacing with management and other departments.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices within the mineral processing industry.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
Familiarity with automation and control systems (SCADA).
Professional Engineer or equivalent.
