Position: Data Scientist

Our client in the IT sector has availed a Data Scientist role in Cape Town. As a Data Scientist your main responsibilities will include using data mining techniques to uncover new insights into the way customers interact with products.

The role will include:

• Working closely with engineers and designers to ensure existing customer data is being asked the appropriate questions, and proposing solutions for effective decision making after identifying any issues
• Assist with the development and execution of the Information Technology Strategy
• Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate, and extract data to supply tailored reports to colleagues, customers, or the wider organization
• Test data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project
• Create clear reports that tell compelling stories about how customers or clients work with the business

• A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or PHD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field, with Computer science Data science/computer and data science Engineering Mathematics and operational research Physics Statistics as degree modules
  
• 8 years of relevant technology and management experience
• 5-7 years of experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models
• Experience using statistical computer languages and strong problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc. and their advantages/drawbacks in real-life
• Demonstrated knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts and experience with applications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams
• Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques and querying databases
• Experience using web services and statistical computer languages
• Experience with distributed data/computing tools and analyzing data from 3rd party providers
• Experience in visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders and working with and creating data architectures
