Our client in the agricultural industry requires the services of a Procurement Officer to assist with the procurement function of the company. 

Key performance areas:

  • Research and evaluating potential vendors
  • Compare and evaluate offers from suppliers
  • Assist in negotiating contract terms of agreement and pricing and preparing reports 
  • Create and Implement Supplier agreements.
  • Manage supplier warranties and guaranties
  • Track orders and ensure timely delivery
  • Review quality of purchased products
  • Prepare reports on purchases
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed Ensure proper storage
  • Stock forecast on long lead time items
  • Ensure accurate Master Data
  • Review contracts using Navision
  • Negotiate prices and determine quantities and validity periods
  • Investigate and solve pricing and invoice queries timeously
  • Ad hoc admin duties
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to optimise purchasing and stock supply
  • Determine procurement risks associated with all contract purchases
  • Create cost savings opportunities from bulk buying
  • Hold strategic, professional and ethical relationships with internal/external clients and suppliers
  • Report relevant management information accurately and timeously
  • Meeting objectives set, to achieve individual and team targets

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

  • Matric with a relevant Diploma/Degree 
  • 4 – 7 years of experience in procurement, driving cost savings and improving terms and conditions
  • Proven track record in leading the procurement function
  • Must be computer literate with thorough Navision/ Stock control programme knowledge and strong Excel skills
  • Must have +2 year experience with Navision
  • Excellent written, communication and negotiating skills
  • Experience in planning, consulting and financial analysis
  • Solid data analysis, evaluation and problem solving skills
  • Excellent command of English and one other official language
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with forex purchasing and importing goods from abroad
  • Attention to detail and very accurate
  • Must be timeous
  • The ability to know who to call if prices need to be challenged.
  • Good report writing skills to prepare weekly reports of that week’s wins and loses
  • Must have knowledge of:
    • Steel related market information
    • Global changes affect local/international prices
    • Consider value engineering (Can a high-strength, low-alloy material replace bulky structural members)
    • Consider all related costs ( duties, freight cost, transport cost and Handling Cost)
    • Difference between Hot dip galvanizing and Thermal spray galvanizing
