MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB


To ensure that strategic partnerships are developed and maintained with stakeholders at national, regional and international level to ensure that the SABS Standardisation portfolio is leveraged and gain appropriate benefit from these relationships.


Productivity



  •  Setup and manage consultative forums that will inform the Programme of work of the Standards development area

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for regional and international participation in standards programme of work

  • Ensure that SABS proactively participates and delivers requisite outcomes against all commitments made at regional and international levels

  • Ensure good corporate governance and financial governance in an environment of declining income from traditional sources

  • Align business unit objectives to the national shareholder’s initiatives and strategies (DTI)

  • Proactively manage and co-coordinate with local committees and international forums

  • Ensure coordination of programmes of work at the ISO, IEC, SADC, AFSEC, ARSO and developing countries environment

  • Measure and improve the SABS image through surveys and questionnaires

  • Implement a succession planning process of committee members

  • Assess the business process risk landscape of the SABS and design solutions to mitigate these risks as required


Customer/ Stakeholder



  •  Provide regular reports, business case motivations and project progress updates within sphere of control

  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders and manage formal and informal strategic engagement forums with SABS partners

  • Promote and educate government departments on using standards to support the attainment of regulations and to reference the latest editions of SANS in procurement  processes

  • Set-up and manage government consultation forums and strategic sector specific advisory forums

  • Enhance the current levels of participation and involvement of government departments in standardisation activities

  • Manage ( in collaboration with the programme managers) internal and external stakeholders so as to ensure that the national standards developed, are proposed at international level and ensure the adoption of positions of the common interests


Growth



  •  Conduct standardisation and best practice research including benchmarking exercises and deliver quality reports

  • Research and qualify business opportunities and prospective partnerships for the SABS

  • Identify new strategic relationships and stakeholders that could be built through bilateral agreements and MOU’s that would be of benefit to the SABS

  • Publish relevant opinion pieces and articles on standardization and related topics

  • Manage contractual services with service providers to ensure provision of services within quality, cost and time constraints

  • Create and promote awareness initiatives on the standardization value proposition to the diverse portfolio of stakeholders.


Competent and empowered employees



  • Set departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports

  • Drive the identification, development, mentorship and retention of skills within the department

  • Manage, monitor and evaluate departmental resources (inclusive of financial, physical and people resources)  and manage all projects and budgets  within designated delegation of authority and scope of control

  • Provide thought leadership regarding strategic partnerships & international relations



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE



  • B Degree or National Diploma in economics, political science or a related field

  • 8 years relevant work experience international relations or strategic partnerships

  • At least 5 years’ experience in management, 2 years of which should be in a middle management position

  • Management of strategic advisory forums is preferred

  • Experience in managing relations with national and international stakeholders

  • Must understand coordination of standardization programmes of work at the ISO, IEC, ARSO, SADC and within the developing countries environment
