The Social Impact and Transformation environment reports to the Vice-Rector: Social Impact, Transformation and Personnel and consists of the following Divisions: Social Impact, Transformation, the SU Museum and the SU Woordfees.    


The Transformation Office is a multi-facet driver of supportive strategies at SU that enables the transformation in the way the institution creates knowledge and develops the potential of its students and staff. The Office has specific functions related to transformation training and engagement, the development of inclusive governance, communication of transformation practices in faculties and professional academic support environments, and supporting and advancing of the implementation and appropriate revisioning of the SU Transformation Plan, with its focus on embedded and systemic transformation.



  • Facilitating and strengthening SU stakeholders’ buy-in and capacity to implement the SU Transformation Plan;
  • Representing SU at regional, national, continental and international transformation forums;
  • Coordinating and implementing a strategic transformation engagement framework for SU in conjunction with other institutional role-players; 
  • Supporting and expanding the development of tools and methodologies to monitor, evaluate and communicate transformational engagement and progress at SU;
  • Collaborating with institutional governance structures and student bodies to ensure a shared responsibility for transformation outcomes;
  • Managing a sustainable Transformation Office within the broader Social Impact and Transformation environment. This includes the development of multi-year workforce planning, staff management and the management of an annual budget (staff and operational budget); 
  • Serving as ex officio member on the Institutional Transformation Committee of SU;
  • Representing the Transformation Office on various SU committees;
  • Facilitating transformation competencies related workshops to staff and students aligned with the outcomes of the SU Siyakhula Programme.

Candidate Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • A relevant master’s degree;
  • At least five years’ relevant management experience within Higher Education; 
  • Relevant experience in teaching and learning in the context of Higher Education; 
  • A proven research-informed profile linked to the establishment and expansion of Transformation related infrastructure;
  • A proven record of strategic management, development and implementation of Transformation related policies, structures and programmes;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and language proficiency. 


  • A relevant PhD;
  • Relevant experience in a similar management position; 
  • Proven experience guiding transformation related processes.
