To maintain, manage and execute on a comprehensive process for identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring and reporting on risks that the Group face or may face in line with the Group Risk Management Strategy. The Risk Manager operates in the Group Risk Management Department and reports to the General Manager for Financial Risks, Data Analytics and Insights for Southern African Operations. The person works in a team with other Risk Managers and Analysts and will be assigned specific responsibilities and key performance areas within the team.



  • B.Com Risk Management, Finance, Economics or an equivalent degree/qualification

  • Extensive experience (2+ years) in risk management and people management

  • Experience in the financial services industry (short-term or long-term insurance industry experience preferable)

  • Specific discipline in financial risk management



Knowledge of the following:




  • Applicable legislative and regulatory framework for financial services organisations

  • Departmental policies and procedures

  • Principles and practice of Enterprise Risk Management concepts, frameworks and methodologies

  • Governance and accountability

  • Internal control and assurance

  • King Report on Corporate Governance

  • Risk Committee Charter

  • Risk Management policies.




 General Risk Management Responsibilities




  • Plan workshops for the year and schedule activities

  • Facilitate workshops with department managers and heads to categorize, identify, assess and rate risks

  • Capture the above-mentioned risks on the risks management system and maintain the register of risks through regular updates and workshops

  • Monitor effectiveness of controls, identify and monitor Key Risk Indicators in relation to approved risk appetite

  • Monitor, assess, quantify and report on financial risk events

  • Assist with the review of Risk Management policies

  • Plan and execute all activities in line with the Group Risk Management Strategy and other Risk Management policies.



 



Financial Risk Management




  • Identification and management of financial risks for the SA Group. This includes collaborating with the Actuarial and Finance departments to understand data, underwriting, reinsurance and other financial risks.

  • Monitoring and reporting on financial risk key risk indicators to the various organisational reporting structures.



 



Combined Assurance




  • Attend various relevant company forums and meetings including the Combined Assurance Forum meetings and actively participate in the activities

  • Interact with various stakeholders including management, the Internal Auditors, the Head of Actuarial Control Function (HAF) and Compliance and Quality Assurance teams

  • Relationship building with internal and external stakeholders

  • Maintain a high level of understanding of possible risks and procedures in each department.



 



Risk Management Reporting




  • Submit monthly and quarterly detailed reports of risk profiles, operational incidents and losses, monitoring, ethics and fraud risk management

  • Submit reports to the Chief Risk Officer for the Internal Risk Committee, Board reports and Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee

  • Provide feedback and input at the above-mentioned committee meetings.



 



Special Reporting and Other projects



 articipate as an individual or as part of a project team on special projects such as:




  • Solvency Assessment and Management (SAM)

  • Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA)

  • Accounting principles including IFRS 17

  • Aligning risk registers to be consistent across the Group

  • Aggregation of risks across the Group.
