PURCHASING MANAGER - Retail / Supermarkets - Kenya

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an expert and committed Purchasing Manager to work for a leading supermarket chain within their operations in Kenya.


As the successful Purchasing Manager, you will be a key member of the management team for a busy and fast growing supermarket chain. You will hold responsibility for handling the procurement and availability of stock, ensuring quality remains high, and maximizing profits and offerings in the market. As the successful Purchasing Manager, you will be a key member of the management team for a busy and fast growing supermarket chain. You will hold responsibility for handling the procurement and availability of stock, ensuring quality remains high, and maximizing profits and offerings in the market. Additional responsibilities will include:


• Gross profit and sales maximization
• Inventory planning and warehousing management
• Monitor and forecast inventories and sales levels
• Minimise stock outs in all branches and at warehouse.
• Compares costs, quality and service to get the best value
• Negotiate prices and trade agreement contracts with all suppliers
• Negotiate bulk deals with suppliers to procure at warehouse level with key suppliers.
• Evaluates suppliers to ensure that they can deliver the desired goods and services
• Assist in the planning and implementation of sales promotion programs
• Build promotional calendar to ensure stores are running promotions to drive up sales and increase customer footfall
• Regularly analyse data to monitor KPI’s within the department and in the stores
• Work closely with senior management in the business


Candidate Requirements

Personal requirements: 

Must have experience of working within procurement for a large supermarket chain

Experience of purchasing both food and non-food items

Management experience within a purchasing/procurement function

Previous experience of the East African market is advantageous but not a must

Strong communication and negotiation skills

Must have experience of working within procurement for a large supermarket chain
