    Former Employee - attorney

    25 Sep 2017

    Pros

There are some really great people at all levels to work with.

    Cons

Some departments have a toxic work environment which is tolerated by the management for example, there are some partners who are known to work out hard working and loyal associates who had always been top performers and supported the firm for many years before moving departments. Issues that can be experienced if one ends up in this unfortunate situation are shifting goalposts, a climate of hostility and disrespect, undue and constant petty criticism and disrespect resulting in negative effects on one's health and possibly the intended outcome to resign and leave the firm. Many people have had this experience.

    Advice to management

Be inclusive, support your loyal staff and keep your promises. And do not tolerate those very few partners who make toxic environments for their staff. You know who they are and investing in a positive work environment across the firm where everyone can feel comfortable will not only improve the environment, but also sow the seeds for an even more profitable business in the future.

    Current Employee - Secretary 2

    26 Oct 2016

    Pros

I am currently employed by Adams & Adams (Pretoria) as a Secretary 2. Amongst others, my duties include invoicing on the CMS system, day to day diary attendances, dicta-phone typing and other office administration duties. Prior to working for Adams & Adams, I was employed as an office manager / paralegal at a Chinese law firm, situated in Johannesburg, to wit, Huang Attorneys. I worked there for 4 years and during that time, I learnt a lot. I dealt with Labour, immigration, family law, drafting of commercial contracts, dealing with employee issues, etc. I also had the privilege of working for Lloyd Kieser & Associates for a period of 4 years, from 2007 to 2011. My resume (attached) details out all my duties and my employment history. For your company, I bring 9 years’ experience in the legal field. This time has taught me to be patient, work hard, work in a team and work under pressure. I also have a paralegal certificate and a secretary certificate, obtained from LEAD. I thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you.

    Cons

It is a pleasure working there. My only reason for seeking alternative employment is due to financial obligations
