Job Title: Construction Health & Safety Officer Location: Richards Bay, KZN
Position Type: Fixed Term Contract
Job Summary:
The Occupational/Construction Health and Safety (OHS) Officer will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment at our heavy industrial manufacturing plant. This role involves implementing and managing comprehensive health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and promoting a culture of safety among all employees.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Program Management:
· Develop, implement, and maintain OHS policies, procedures, and programs.
· Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
· Collaborate with management to establish safety goals and objectives.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
· Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
· Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure compliance with local, provincial and global OHS regulations.
· Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory bodies.
· Keep up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and standards.
4. Training and Education:
· Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels.
· Promote safety awareness and culture through ongoing communication and training initiatives.
· Ensure that all employees are informed of OHS policies and procedures.
5. Emergency Response:
· Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
· Coordinate and conduct emergency drills to ensure preparedness.
· Act as a key contact in case of emergencies, providing guidance and support.
6. Record Keeping and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training.
· Prepare regular reports on safety performance and present findings to management.
· Analyse safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
7. Continuous Improvement:
· Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in OHS practices.
· Benchmark against industry best practices and incorporate them into the plant’s safety programs.
· Encourage employee involvement in safety programs and initiatives.

- Health And Safety Officer: 5 to 6 years
- Occupational Health And Safety Implementation: 5 to 6 years
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Construction Health and Safety Agent PrCHSA / Construction Health and Safety Manager CHSM/ Construction Health and Safety Officer CHSO
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in OHS within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
· Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
· Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.
Work Environment:
· This position is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing plant.
· Candidates must be able to work in a noisy, high-energy environment and comply with all safety regulations.
· Occasional travel may be required to other facilities or project sites.
